07 vortec max while i was heading to the airport i noticed that when i hit the dry pavement of the parking garage my front drivers side wheel was making a loud clanking sound while i was turning. It sounded like the axle was jumping in and out of 4 wheel drive

Are you saying you hear the noise while in 4wd and turning on dry pavement? If so that is normal. Your 4wd is binding in the turn. That is why 4wd should not be on while on dry pavement. You should engage 2wd as your hitting the dry pavement and before turning. Or put it auto4.

If you drive in 4x4 on dry pavement, you will get more of a humming noise from the middle of the truck( I would call it humming?) That noise is normal. Loud clanking noise I don't know.. It is so hard to describe noises.. much less diagnose them without hearing them.

If you are in 4wd and turning on dry pavement it is not humming. You hear the inside tire chirping and the binding of the 4wd. Again, he said while turning. If your in 4wd and going straight on dry pavement you wont hear anything.

I have owned 8 different 4 wheel drives and have never had one make this sound Im thinking that maybe it isnt fully engaging into 4 wheel drive. Off to the shop I go
