The GMT-900's have the temp built into the DIC :smash:

i have almost the same exact truck as you, thats my normal operating temp and it always has been.

i had the same symptoms as you not too long ago with the coolant, and it was my water pump. your lucky you got that long out of it my water pump lasted about 78,000 miles. youve got like 200,000 miles on that truck dont you

Yep, she's got 192,000+ miles on her with the original pump. Im hoping its a leaking hose or something, not the whole pump.

I guess i must have been jumping the gun,but i'll take yall's word that that is the normal temp.

The GMT-800 series had a gauge on the lower left of the IP cluster. Not every vehicle came equipped with one though.

The 1500 GMT 800 series did not come with a transmission oil temperature gauge, but there was space for it in the gauge cluster. Despite the fact that there was a temperature sensor installed, no gauge was provided. Only 2500 and 3500 series had a gauge.

Hey guys, I have a related problem. Sorry to piggyback, but I cant find any answers to my problem searching the site.

I just bought this truck and have been trying to fix its little issues myself, but I need help with this.

My issue; I notcie that my antifreeze was leaking out of a spout directly below my overfill tank spout off of the Radiator. both spouts are right below the AntiFreeze Fill Cap. The spout that is leaking doesn't have anything connected to it. it is just open and free flowing. There are no hoses unplugged. I do not know what the spout is for. I have it plugged now.

The truck wasn't leaking or showing signs of leaking when I bought it. Have been driving it everyday all day (for work) for a little over three weeks with no problems expect a misfire code read.

Side notes: The truck is a 96 GMC Sierra SLE 5.7L Has under 210K on it. the engine is real clean and has been well taken care of. I don't have any info on whats been fixed or replaced though.

If anyone has any ideas as to what the Spout is for, pleas let me know.

Thanks for the help.

Where you gauge is now isn't hot. :dunno: If you have a leak, you need to find out where it's coming from and get it fixed, but what your showing is not hot by any means. If its the water pump, it's not a hard job, but if you do it, I'd consider replacing the therm. stat. too.

That's exactly where my truck sits and my dad's truck sits.

Mine runs straight up 210. Id say you're fine.

Just below 210 is normal.

The problem is that the temperature gauges in these vehicles are nothing more than "idiot passifiers", what I meen by that is that the computer sets the needle to that position, NO MATTER WHAT THE OPERATING TEMPERATURE IS. The only time it moves is at startup, or overheating (when it is too late). Proof? Even back to 2001 my Z28 (Sara) temperature gauge does the same thing showing the same temperature. I purchased an aftermarket digital gauge (Cyburdine), and had the sending unit (1/8NPT with brass adapter) installed in a port on one of my cylinder heads. The difference in the readings between both aftermarket and stock gauge is very dramatic, I get a TRUE reading bypassing the ECM.

At least in the Camaro's case the last TRUE operating water temperature gauge was in the 1999 models.

I'm with you on that, I got a bully dog tuner a few days ago and just for fun have the coolant displayed, it shows anywhere from 180-200 based on how hard i'm driving, and the guage stays at a constant 210, a little over.

my truck reads 210 all the time, except on the really hot days here, might hit 212, but comes back to 210 quickly, this went for my '07 silverado

i had in the past.

Mine's always around 200F. Once I towed the boat, with the truck bed full of gear on a 112F day and it hit 220 cresting a couple hills. It's close at least I think.
