cghbuilder86 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I'm just wondering how often I should grease the alamites on my truck. Both my '94 and my '04 silverado have 11 alamites on the front end. I used to grease them every other oil change, but I use to change oil at 3,000 mile increments and I also have a busted seal on the old truck. Now I change at 4,000-5,000 miles and have been putting about two pumps in every oil change. Is that too much? Am I going to break one of the seals?
txab Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 You should be fine. Just watch the rubber seals as you fill. You'll see them expand and/or bulge.
pm26 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 A couple pumps every 10k miles should be sufficient.
cghbuilder86 Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 It's a grease fitting sonny boy ;) What the f*** is an alamite?
redsled2007 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 What the f*** is an alamite? Alamite is a manufacturer of grease guns, pumps and oil mist systems used in the lubrication industry. You probably know them as "Zerk" fittings, or grease fittings.
05GMCZ71 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 an important tip- Don't add grease until it comes out, just until the boots start to bulge. You risk rupturing the boot and also excessive grease leads to dirt and grime getting into things.

Exactly, and that is why I do not recommend very frequent greasing and only a couple of strokes of the pump at a time.
marine_devildog801 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I hate to be ignorant, but do the 2007+ trucks' front ends need to be greased? If so, what else needs to be? When it comes to maintainance if it is not oil change, tire rotation, etc. I don't have a clue. It's bad I know.
cghbuilder86 Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 sounds like I need to cut back a little. I guess it can be easy to over grease it but probably not too easy to "undergrease" it if I'm doing it every 10,000 miles.
topdj Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 my 07+ 1500 didn't really too many, now my 3/4 ton has a lot of fittings
