Lifted Trucks In Car Wash

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking about putting a 6" bds lift on my truck for a little bit now and came across the thought that I may not be able to go through a standard car wash with the lifted truck. As i live in Canada and having a black truck, nothing bothers me more then a dirty black truck. Wondering if everyone who has lifted their truck washes it by hand? or if they are still able to use the standard touchfree carwashes.

car washes (touchless or otherwise) are evil (in my opinion).

Agreed but when you don't have a warm place to wash, opening the truck up to a minimal amount of surface scratches are better then rust IMO. I cringe when I do, but years ago I worked at the full service one I go to, from time to time over the winter, and their maintenance schedule was pretty stout. Now the ones that are at gas stations and that crap, HELL NO!

To the OP, when I worked at the wash we had GMT 800s with 6" lifts and 35's come through weekly. Over that and it was not going to happen. Typically washes can run vehicles around 7 and change feet tall, but that is just my experience up here. Go to your local one of preference and ask what the height limit is.

You could probably say good bye to the touchless.

I have had mine lifted with the fabtech in the touchless ones several times.. Like its been said, its not that great, but its better than havin it rust when your in a bind.

I would not try it myself with a lifted truck.I use them all the time for the last twelve years and only had my dale earnhardt Tag smacked off.And that was with a brush kind.Never had the swirl marks like others have mentioned.I found a new touchless that works great I use.

I fit through a touchless this winter with a 7.5" lift on 33" winter tires, i doubt i would have fit with 35's.

Actually, i know for a fact my 35x12.5's would have been too wide for the tire guide lol.

if you truely care about your paint (ESPECIALLY with black) you should NEVER take your truck to a car wash UNLESS it's a do it yourself car wash. in the winter when it's too cold to wash my truck at home (35 or under) i take my truck to a do it yourself car wash and give it a good pressure washer rinse that is enough to hold you over untill you can wash it.

touchless "laser" wash is essentially doing the same thing as the DIY wash.. blasting your truck with chemicals and re-used water. I agree though if you are referring to the brushed variety of car wash.

and DaveV: I have taken my 305/55/20s through the touchless laser washes 2-3 times never had problems with tires not fitting..

Yeah, I suppose every car wash is different, the one I was recently in looked like it was from the 1940s!

wow ya the ones I am referring to are definitely newer style touchless "laster guided" car washes. They are pretty safe.
