Sierra "power Tech Package" Options ?

Hello, this is my first post but have been lurking for a long time. I'm looking at purchasing a new 2011 GMC sierra 1500. I was doing the "build your own" on the gmc site and noticed that the "Power tech package" description stats: "4 - 17" x 7.5" 6-lug aluminum wheels can be upgraded to 4- 18" x 8" polished aluminum wheels." This would be ideal to me becuase i don't like the chrome clad style wheels (seems cheap to me) and would rather have a larger polished alumimum wheel. I haven't been able to find a photo of such wheels and the people at my local dealership are clueless. Any insight? thanks in advanced.

Welcome to the Forum!

If the people at the dealership can't show you pictures of wheel options on a new truck you want to buy from them, RUN don't walk away from that one and find another!

I think this is the wheel you are talking about.

I thought the same thing, but the description for that wheel is 18 x 8 "Chrome-Clad" vs. the Power tech package stats: 18 x 8 "Polished Aluminum" That's why i thought there was a different wheel I haven't seen?

I think the only other 18" rim available is the one that comes with the All-Terrain pkg. but I thought that one was now chrome clad as well for cost cutting measures. Other than that, I know the 20" accessory wheels are polished alum. and very nice. I have a set.

The all terrain is 18 is chrome clad too, that is what I was referring too, kinda stupid having plastic wheels

I have these on my truck, they are definitely "Chrome Clad" (glued on plastic hubcaps).

Also, from what I've gathered to get these wheels you had to get the SLT w/ Z71 or a Hybrid.

Yeah, I want to stay away from the chrome-clad wheel style wheels. Salt in the winters and dirt the rest of the year would ruin them for sure. I’ll stick with the 17” polished as shown. Guess the “18 x 8 Polished aluminum” was just a typo on the “build your own” feature of the gmc website. I still wish items were available ala-carte vs. ordering a package.

heres the 17 inch wheels that came on my 2011 power tech.post-80478-1301023638_thumb.jpg

Those stock 17" wheels aren't much better at holding up to corrosion. Mine were pitting and flaking at 20,000K. The salt and rocks just chew 'em up and anywhere they hammered on a lead weight was all eaten up.

I cannot understand why GM does not use stick on weights on truck wheels that can be damaged by hammer on lead weights.
