Low Mileage Truck Fluid Change?

Ok, folks, I have been thinking about changing the coolant and the ATF/filter on my 2006. As stated above, only 27k miles on it. It only sees about a 15 mile suburban round trip commute every few days since I have an older Accord I usually take to work. No towing or hauling. My thought is 5 years is long enough for factory filled fluids. Do you think I should have them changed? One or the other or both? I'm going to have the dealer do the tranny service, but how hard is it for the coolant flush? The local dealer quoted $134 for the coolant flush, and $279 for the tranny flush. Are those prices reasonable? Thanks for your input.

I'd flush the coolant. I'd probably leave the trans alone since you don't tow or haul. Do it at 50k or later if you wish. Change the diff at that time too. You might flush the brake fluid.

 

No harder than your truck is working factory fluids will go a long way, except Dexcool.

So you think 10 years (give or take) is ok for the tranny fluid & filter, as well as the rear diff? I'm guessing that is how long until I hit 50k. Brake fluid was flushed last year.

Well your Owners manual shows 100k for trans service for your situation. (normal duty service).

 

You have Dex VI (synthetic) already installed in the trans. You have synthetic diff fluid already also. I'd bet it looks as if you just installed it, colorwise. If you have any doubts, you could always have a trans fluid sample tested. I'd just hate to spend $300 if it was not needed.

 

If 10 years bothers you, go for 40k change. That would only be 2 more years

 

How often are you changing engine oil. Also are you using synthetic or dino?

 

Bottom line you need to do what makes you feel comfortable, not what I or anyone else says........

I understand what you are saying, txab. Anytime I look at maintenance services schedules as XX months or XX miles, I always have to lean on the time portion of it, due to low annual mileage accumulation. I'm probably overreacting, but leaving fluids in for long periods of time, kinda bugs me. I guess I will get the coolant flush done this year, and wait a year for the tranny & differential. BTW, I'm doing 6 mo OCI w/ dino...
