JoeSal Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 I have the bose system in my truck. The CD player seems to be jammed with CD in it. It will not eject them or take in another (It has the 6-cd dash mount system). I was wondering if others have had a similar issue. Are there any options for me? aftermarket? or something other thank taking it to the dealer? I did a couple of searches on this forum but came up with nothing. my search skills are limited. Thank You for any help. joe
dsr611 Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 The factory Bose radio in my wife's 05 Tahoe did the same thing...pretty sure they are the same radio. I took it out and took the radio apart and it looks like a small plastic gear was broken. After looking around on the 'net for a replacement and finding that the same radio usually costs as much, if not more, as a name brand aftermarket radio, I'm just going to replace it with an aftermarket unit. After reading your post again, I see that your is a 6 disc, whereas my wife's is the single. Probably still the same issue, though.
8.1HD/ALLISON Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Same issue. Typical junk. Better off buying aftermarket.
smttysmth02gt Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 My truck did the same thing, which is why I'm replacing my deck.
jimbrown1 Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Wife's cd unit in 2004 tahoe with BOSE : Just had the issue with my wife's single cd player in the 2004 Tahoe. Unfortunately, I had other issues with it as well that I wanted repaired (lights behind preset buttons out) so I found a reputable place in FL who quoted me the repair at $150 for the lights and repairing the CD player. When they got the unit, they plugged it in and the CD worked fine. Must have just needed to be reset or something so me taking it out did the trick. They fixed the backlights for $50 and returned to me. If you have any other features in your vehicle such as rear seat audio controls, etc. you will lose them with an aftermarket unit. (not sure you have that in a truck but thought I'd mention it since my 2005 GMC Sierra crew cab Z71 had it). www.sound-repair.com Quick turnaround and they told me if the CD player went out for some reason in the next 3-6 months (they checked it out while they had it and said everything was good and the unit was strong when pulling the CD into the player so they didn't feel it needed replacement or any kind of work but told me it was up to me) they would credit me the freight and would fix it for me. Good luck. I shopped around for aftermarket players and just didn't find anything I liked and GM was only selling the unit for $876 as a remanufactured unit. Was never gonna pay that either.
JoeSal Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Thank you for your help. I will try to find a place that can possibly repair it. If that doesnt work out, I will go aftermarket. thanks again

tbob604 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 There is a company located out of MN that you can ship your radio to and they will replace the CD deck, clean it and replace lights and buttons if needed. http://www.originalcaraudio.com/ is the website for this company. Their customer service is amazing and if you call them and tell them whats going on with it they will tell you how much it is going to be to fix it. Going this route is much less expensive than going aftermarket, after you add in all of the added install gear you need to keep onstar, door chimes, steering wheel controls, your looking at a lot of extra money. Even just purchasing a used OEM radio will end up costing more because it has to be programmed to the vehicle(or so I have read) and that supposedly costs an arm and a leg. My suggestion is to call Original Car Audio and tell them what's wrong. The longest part of doing it this way is shipping, the repairs are ALWAYS a one day turn around. Good luck!

So when you removed the stereo yourself and they returned it to you after being fixed did you have to have an unlock code for the anti-theft? Or did they code it while they had it?
jimbrown1 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Since the unit was from the vehicle and already programmed to it, there was no recoding or reprogramming necessary. They said that by removing the unit from the vehicle, it automatically reset itself and the cd came out when they plugged it up and played fine so they ended up just returning the cd with the unit and only replacing the lights behind the preset buttons and all other lights since they have a propensity to burn out anyway, why not replace them all while the unit is open.
