Weird Problem

07,GMT-900, Last week i started getting a grinding noise from the passengers side rear drum. It wasn't doing it all the time, the noise was coming and going. So over the weekend i jacked the truck up and when i spun the wheel i could hear it in the drum. So i took the drum off and cleaned everything with brake clean and put it back together. That seemed to do the trick untill last night. I had been out driving around with my girlfriend and the noise came back. So i just figured whatever I'll just take it apart again and clean both sides this weekend. But then my truck started making this noise I've never heard like i was draging the muffler down the road and it was coming from the front of the truck as well. I pulled over when that noise started to happen and checked for anything visual that could be wrong like fluids leaking out of the rear/front,hanging or broken parts etc... Then i got out and had my girlfriend just let it coast to see if i could locate the new noise with no luck. I got back in the truck at this point about 15miles away from home and drove it back with no problems. I tested the 4wd and that was fine as well. Anyone have any thoughts to what might be going on????? Of couse my bumper to bumpers out so i'd like to be sure its drivetrain related before going in with it. One of the mechanics at work cant look at it till about monday. Any help would be great, Justin

Ah, Plattsburgh! I kinda miss that place except for the LOOOONNNGGG winters!

You could be hearing bad U-joints. Years ago I noticed one on my old truck going bad while backing out of my driveway. It really only made much noise going backwards under power. Not much at all going forward but when I took it apart, it was cooked.

Well i went under the truck after i got off work and ending up finding a coolant leak and not the problem i'm after. So i took it to the dealer and had them take a quick look and turned out to be the water pump gasket was leaking. They took it in right away to fix it because they felt bad that they had just replaced the water pump. Turned out that it was the kids first week on the job that replaced my WP and never scraped the old gasket off the block. So whatever atleast thats fixed but I'm still after this problem I'm having. I drove it around for a while and the noise hasn't came back. Don't know what to do at this point??????? Justin

I'd be very fearful of a place that hires someone who doesn't remove the old gasket when replacing a water pump (or anything else for that matter).

well that grinding noise in the front is the wheel hub. Luckily I just found out its covered under warrenty. Brakes look to be bad though. Only 38k and nothing but problems. :) Should i also have my alignment checked after or will that not bother it??? Thanks, Justin

Having a hub replaced should not affect the alignment, but if you haven't had it checked for a while it wouldn't hurt. Suspensions settle in over time, especailly from new. And it only takes one bad pothole to get it out of spec. Take a good look at your tires and see how they are wearing.
