First Time Drag Racing

Yesterday I went to Maryland Internatinoal Raceway for the Big Rig Nationals event. I decided to drag race for the first time.

 

My truck is a 2006 Silverado 2500 HD with the Vortec 8.1, 6 speed Allison, 4.10 gearing, and magnaflow exhaust. Other than the muffler, my truck is stock.

 

Needless to say, traction was an issue. My first run I was out of the grove and burned out half way down the track and did a 25 second quarter. It was rather embarassing. My second run I got in the grove. I pulled off a 17.09 @ 81 mph with a .85 reaction. Third run I tried to launch differently, but spun the tires.

 

I do have the stock 245/75/16 tires. Next time I decide to drag race, I guess I should get better racing tires. I know this truck is capable of 16 second quarters, but I suck at launchs. But overall, it was fun to see huge trucks race, including semi's and diesels, and I learned a lot.

 

Anybody else go to this event?

launch in 4wd. my buddy has an 05 bone stock duramax and he has the same problem as you if he launches in 2. he launches in 4 and switches back to 2 at about 25-30.
