So I was out cutting firewood over the weekend, and as I finish a cut, the log drops. All of a sudden I see blood red dripping out of the center of the log and Im thinking what the hell? Turns out there was a 4+ foot snake all comfy up in this log. By pure dumb luck I cut right behind its head. Here is a picture. Thats a 20 inch bar on the saw.

It sucks to be that snake! LOL

I noticed your mods ... even though I'm in crappy Massachusetts my best mod is my Kimber Ultra Carry .45ACP in my storage compartment (Locked and loaded)

I'm no expert on snakes. The couple guys that were there, as well as me, thought it was a chicken snake. Was mostly dark with just a faint pattern. The head was not a diamond shape like the cottonmouth. Also after it was dead I pried the mouth open. Could not find any fangs. I hate snakes period! I'm just glad it didn't come crawling out when I started sawing.

Wow man, thats crazy. I hope you don't mind if I post that picture over on a woodworking forum I am a member at. I think they will get a kick out of it.

Glad you killed it, and didn't just piss it off.

I am with you.. had a pet snake when i was a kid.. non-poisnous hog-nose snake.. my buddy had a ball python.. The nature center where my wife works has a huge 5' black rat snake...

I have hiked a couple of times on the AT, we have encountered timber rattlers right in the trail...just get a long walking stick... like 10-12', and gently move them to the side.. they all have a purpose here.. like we all do..

Please tell me you didn't pry by means of your fingers. Given that (like you said), you aren't a snake expert, that wouldn't be a smart move.

Even after poisonous snakes die, their venom is still just as harmful, and can still escape through the fangs.
