2011 Gmc Sierra Denali Rust All Over Frame

Recommended Posts

I have a 6 month old 2011 GMC denali - that the underbody coating is peeling off and already is having surface rust issues. Dealer is being cooperative but says all they can do is sand off and paint frame. I am concerned this is fortelling of issues to come. Has anyone else had this issue.

I don't believe that for a second. Every car/truck on the road would/will have the same issue. They all get some sort of rust on the frame

And welcome to the site.

A common issue. Surface rust on the frame will not hurt anything. Let the dealer repaint it and do not worry about it.

You can buy a spray can of the same waxy stuff gm coats the frame in. I ordered mine from gmapartsdirect. Part number is #12346501. I had a few bare spots from where i jacked up the vehicle and i just sanded off the rust and sprayed the wax coating back on.

I have the same problem with my 2011 Sierra 1500 4x4. Problem is, I actually use the 4x4 and it is constantly getting the GM waxy stuff scratched off. When GM said they would paint yours, are they going to re-apply that oil/waxy stuff or are they going to use paint. I had it come off with a garden hose.

Typical GM shoddyness....likely won't hurt anything before the truck wears out in 7-8 years. But it will leave rust stains on your garage floor, which pissed me off since I have a nice epoxied floor.

7-8 years.. that makes me laugh. I've owned GM trucks for the last 20 years and not 1 has failed me nor has left rust stains on my floor.
