Gmc Sierra 2000 Alarm System Issue

Hi everyone,

thanks for a great forum!!

I have an issue that is really bothering me quite a bit.

I have had my truck to the mechanic several times and we have somewhat of a diagnosis but no solution.

GMC sierra 2000, 125000 miles, manual 6.0L

Symptoms are:

Usually when it is hot but not from driving the truck, my truck wont start. It does turn over.

The sound that usually comes on from opening the door is gone. There is a solid "security"

light at the display. the drivers door lock only responds once when I hit the unluck, and then it doesnt

engage. The passenger door does.

Usually all I can do is wait, and all of a sudden it will come back on and start again.

Sometimes when I am driving the once a second alarm goes on, like the door is open, and security will

blink in the display.

We have diagnosed it with the computer and I cannot remember the error code, but it was something to the affect

that there is a certain password or key that is not being received from the engine.

In the manual, once that key is not received, its supposed to luck the system for I think 10 minutes and then

you can try again. This doesnt fit with my experience, which is anywhere between 15 seconds and an hour before the truck will

"wake up" and I can start it again.

Again this usually always happens when it is really hot outside. I live in AZ. Once the truck is started it wont die if the alarm

system starts actin up.

There is a way to clear the key issues by flipping the head light on 3 times, blink twice and so on, but it doesnt seem to work.

Due to the economy I am not having a lot of income right now and I am worried about giving it to the dealer for a repair.

Some say it is a sensor, some say it is the computer, nobody says they know what it is and can fix it.

IF I can get ANY help, I would be MOST grateful.

Can't tell you how many times I have sat in a drive way wondering if I need to call a taxi, and having

to apologize to my clients.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

This sounds like the 2000 Silverado I had. The problem was the key switch. It's part of the security system. This was 10 years ago so a little fuzzy.

Hey Mark, I had the whole ignition replace a year back which didnt do anything.

New development perhaps:

I couldn't start it as usual and I went out and opened the hood and unplugged and replugges some wires and pulled in things here and there...it started right up!

So now the question could be, which of the plugs is tied into the ignition and would give me such an error.

Would be awesome to actually locate the freaking thing

Thanks, and thanks anyone who might have a few suggestions,

Mike
