Body Rust 2007

Recommended Posts

While washing my truck, I noticed 2 tiny spots of rust on the door. Upon closer review, I noticed that the paint felt like it is starting to bubble.

The truck is a GMT900 2007 with 28,000 mile on it. What is the warranty regarding paint? If there is none, what can I do to fix?

2 options, a light 3M rubbing compound or clay bar it.

Both ways will need to be buffed up to bring the shine back.

Don't think the dealer is really going to help or if there is any thing the warranty will cover.

Got the same or very similar spots on my truck and I just clay bar each spot when I see one.

Those look like stone chips to me,just touch them up with some paint and you should be good to go,as far as warranty the only thing you'd have left would be rust-through.

Ya know I've got the same thing!!?? It seems to be all over one side and on the hood a little. My truck is silver birch, and it looks like little small brown spots all over... :dunno:

Does the orange peal match up with all the panels around the truck? Or has it been repainted..... Up from the A is a different peal than the area above the R and to the left...... just curious has it had a respray on it in that area?

I've got a few rusted stone chip spots on my truck. If I was going to put a dot of touchup paint on it, how would I need to remove the rust on a tiny spot like that?

That is called raildust. A simple claybar will remove these

As Ryan stated, it is just a stain and will wash or polish off. Usually stone chips reveal the grey colored metal sealer under the paint.

I was going to mention this as well. When the large pic first loaded there were a lot of very obvious "pits" in the paint. Does not look like OEM paint to me.

That paint does not look healthy. Looks like there was some sort of repair done and was poorly preped for repaint. Did the truck have any damage that you know of?

i agree with everyone else.

first, feel the rust spots. are they on top of or flush with the paint, or are they little pits?

if they feel like they are on top or you can't really tell, it is most likely just contaminents and a clay bar will remove it. be sure to clay the whole car if you've never done this before, and apply a coat of wax to protect the paint after. clay bar strips anything on the paint.

if they feel like little pits, then they are probably from rock chips. get some touch up paint and cover it up.

Could it be from a lawnmower or riding mower throwing rocks (or something) at the side of the truck? I always move mine before getting on the mower. I try to make sure it's away from my property line when my neighbor mows too.

I thought rail dust was from transporting via rail while new. would it be rail dust if it showed up after 4+ years and 28,000 miles. Just asking because I don't know. I'd bet rock chips from mower or road.

There are plenty of sources of metal "dust" or particles that can cling to paint and rust in place. Brake systems are among the first to come to mind. Tar can also make rust like stains on the paint.
