wow my 07 does the same thing and the dealer said it seemed normal i even went to a Dodge dealership i was working at the time and had their tech look into and and they seemed it was normal....

That's strange, yours is a 4 speed automatic, same as mine. I have not experienced any issues like that in my truck.

My '08 did this, but the 2010 doesn't. It was annoying but mine may not have been as bad as some of yours.

Normal operational characteristics of an '11 calibrated 6L80 transmission. Add in the '11 TQ Managment calibrations in the ecm and this is what you get. I'm not so sure that all of this can be taken out of the current cals without some negative things being added in so that is most likely why this is what we got loaded in, from the factory. Until another set of cals come out to change it, it is what it is.

My '11 6.2 is much improved by just driving it in M4, in town.

My dad took it into the dealer mainly to get it on paper to report the issue. Dealer could not reproduce the issue.

The mechanic said that the 6 speed is a very busy tranny. Although he is right, It should not be happening. This particular dealer has received a lot of complaints about the surging from other customers . Service writer said if it continues , a bulletin will probably soon appear.

I have a 2011 6sp with the 3:42.........

I was at a stop light today and I had to really push on the brakes....the thing felt like it was wanting to take off.

Is this what ya'll are talking about?

Less than 300 miles on it.....

It sure is smooth on the highway though.

Yep. I even feel it occasionally when slowing down to make turns.

My '09 Silverado CC 5.3L 6-speed 3.42gears Z71 4x4 (15K miles) does it too. Especially lately, since the weather cooled off. Annoying as heck, and dangerous too, you could rear-end another vehicle if you weren't paying attention and if you didn't stomp on the brakes in time! That could be really fun (NOT) if the roads were slick/icy, or maybe the PCM doesn't make it surge when you're in 4WD mode?

Kinda hard to believe that with all of the grief that was given Toyota over the floormat/unintended acceleration issue, that NHTSA hasn't even sniffed around this GMT900 issue.

Hey, maybe there's a new dealer slogan in this somewhere . . . "GM--surging ahead!" :nonod:

I just bought a '11 Sierra 5.3L and I guess I notice some of what is being posted but I didn't think it to anything but a characteristic of the vehicle. Every vehicle I have ever owned has certain "quirks" of operation so I just adapt. I guessed it was a result of the 4/8 ECO mode switching.

As for the surging ahead when put into gear, I only notice it right after cold startup when the engine is on high idle and it is very minor. Unlike earlier vehicles I have owned that would bark the tires when pulled into drive on high idle.

2011 Sierra 1500 5.3 6sp. Same issues everyone is describing here. A little unnerving, as it feels almost like you are being slightly "tapped" or rear ended...its not become a serious issue yet but it is there. I'm getting ready to turn 6000 miles.

Noticed this a few times now and now more frequently. Whenever I come to a stop the truck wants to surge ahead, like it speeds up on its own. Very dangerous to be frank especially when approaching someone at a stop light. 2011 sierra, crew cab 5.3. Anyone else notice this with their truck?

I know exactly what you're talking about. Thought maybe it was something I was doing.

Mine does it as well. I read some where in these forums its normal. It comes from the tranny and trying to choose the right gear. Sometimes when you accelerate then suddenly stop tranny is thinking what to do. Its a glitch and not much you can do.

2011 Silvy 5.3 3.42's does the exact same thing. Damn near rear ended the car in front of me the first time it happend. I just assumed I was the only one and I havn't told my dealer yet because I wasn't sure how to describe it. I've been living with it the past 18,000 miles but it does not make me happy. This is my first chevy and I belive it will be the last. This dang truck also ticks like a time bomb when I turn it on in the morning. sounds like it runs without oil

For me it seems to happen when I brake more abruptly, or too late. It happens if I am not paying attention, and brake like a lot of women I know, stopping very quickly towards the end, no offense to you ladies. If I am driving normally and smoothly, I almost never notice it.

Actually, I found that once I got comfortable driving my truck, the vehicle would downshift predictably to help me slow down. By the last 100', as I slowed to a stop at a typical stop light, I would just be tapping the brake as the ruck downshifts to slow me down. Of course, this occurs when I brake very smoothly, and when I begin braking at a distance. Anyways, between the strange shifts of the truck, high gas prices, and the fact that I have Progressive insurance with the plug in discount deal, I have begun driving more smoothly..
