Front brake issue

I replaced my rotors and pads with Napa premium the Summer before last. Just recently I started getting a grinding when the brake is applied. I pulled the calipers and sure enough the passenger inner pad disintigrated and the grinding was the backing plate on the rotor.

I have a lifetime replacement on the pads, but not on the rotors. I may have quite an argument trying to get them to replace the rotor due to the failed brake pad, but we'll see.

Question though... could there be something else wrong that could have caused one of the pads to disintigrate? The calipers appear to be functioning normally.

Thanks,

Chris

I'd say the caliper is getting hung up and caused it. happened to me a couple times and ran through a couple sets of pads..

Hung up as in the guides need to be cleaned and lubed or the caliper itself is hanging up and needs to be replaced?

Ahh... I'm in luck... turns out the "ultra premium" rotors are also lifetime warranty and covered. I guess I'm only out my labor. Still though I've never seen this before. Are parts just being made to much lower standards now-a-days?

Chris,

Just noted your location. Up in the snow country, you guys get salt and moisture. There's a fair possibility that there was rusting in the slot where the pads locate and in the contact areas of the bracket to caliper. When you put it back together, use a steel wirebrush to clean these areas and then find some molybdenum dry spray lube to coat these areas. I wouldn't use any oil or grease in these areas. You'll want to follow the directions on these dry lubes. Most contain a resin that needs to dry to adhere well.

Here's an example of a dry lube.

What truck did you get your pads and rotors for? How much did you end up getting the rotors and pads for? I need to replace my fronts due to warping sometime in the next few weeks

This is kind of old...but...

My rears did the same thing. Right rear inner pad was down to themetal plate and killed my rotor.

My rear brake backing plate rusted out, and got caught in between the pad and rotor. The fronts have a similar type plate, make sure it is not all rusted out.
