my ol c10 85 diesel burb,RIP ,!!

she had crazy engine oil cooler lines that come across in front of the fan against the rad over to the passenger side and of course they leaked at the crimp,i took them to a hose shop and they recrimped the aluminum lines to the rubber ,never leaked again till i tore her heart out and then crushed her ,,,,,,sniffle sniffle ,,anyone have a tissue ??????

she was an awesome phackin truck

You see I've thought about goin to a hose shop now, the shop I work in now actually has a crimp machine. But doesn't have the correct size die's to do the job...I just come to the realization that I will lose maybe a couple teaspoon of oil every winter...

My guy was to busy today to look at mine.. Monday takling it in for a glance.

But he told me that he has cut off the crimp in the past and put some screw clamps on there and it fixes it great. Hopefully i can do something similair.

IDK what the cost of the gasser tranny cooler lines ,i could find out in about 5 minutes on mitchell ondemand, but you have the right idea to peak under it every now and again and check it and wipe it off,

after i found out that 93 6.2 diesels came with no engine oil cooler lines from factory ,i plugged the block and pooof ,no more leak !!!

do not do that for the tranny of course ,,

the K5 dude was thinking of the older trucks having cooler line nuts to tighten, thats all

Done that before too. Never had a problem with a screw clamp. It's an easy fix.

thought about doin that, but I don't know how much pressure is goin thru those lines? I was thinkin using a brake line flaring tool and finding like some type of a v-band clamp...or some type of Good clamp. Just always to scared to try, they are a PITA to change without a hoist...

Screw clamps and rubber hose is one way transmission coolers have been installed for years. Line pressures aren't that high.

Removing the crimps and installing new hose with clamps is how we are repairing the pickup trucks in our fleet. It's a quick easy, inexpensive repair. No way we would spend the time and money installing new lines

I heard there is between 35-50 psi in there..

TXAB-- How are you removing the crimps on there? any chance of pictures or video? Thanx in advance . You would be helping out a ton of people with some sort of instructions..

just cut the outer crimp on an angle a piece at a time and work your way around it without touching the rubber hose

clamp it and done ,,,right darral ?

Posted

isnt the crimp metal tho.. how would you cut the metal? Also would there still be pressure in the line if the truck is off and cooled down? Id hate to slip and cut the line and spray tranny fluid all over.

Posted

take the line off and with a hack saw,put the blade flat against the hose ,teeth towards the aluminum crimp ,cut down to the end of the crimp ,move the blade around for another bite

i hope that helps ,

its hard to explain,do not cut the hose

Is there going to be pressure in the lines when the truck is off tho if i take the crimp off?

My lines started leaking after 8 years/158k miles. I'll take that. I just installed new ones. It's a bear of a job, but it's doable. So far all is well.
