Hours of Service. LAW allows 11 hours driving in a 14 hour window then Must take 10 CONSECUTIVE hours off.

Must also take a 1/2 hour break during day before 8 hours being on duty.

They then have law of taken a 32 hour break after 60 hours in 7 days or 70 hours in 8 days.

The Commercial driving world is a Giant Headache.

Oh I hear you there! I got out of it 6 years ago & I'm not missing it at all. I still haul cars occasionally with the Silverado for myself, but I have no desire to do that full time. I still keep my "A" just in case, but I haven't had a physical in 7 years or so. I will never drive for someone else EVER again, besides close friends.

On that note I've got a buddy that's been thinking of buying a flatbed setup & just hitting Freightfinder.com every morning. I may do an occasional run for him in that case. Would make buying my coal (bagged) for the winter much cheaper buying it by the TT load, and delivering it myself. :)

Thanks for the refresher on the HOS - I see they totally revamped that yet again. Was hard enough for me to remember it when I was driving, let alone being out of it 6 years now. My log books had lots of Wite-Out ...

Ive been retired about 6 months, I've been thinking about part time camper hauling for something to do once in awhile or some hot shot type stuff. Kinda putting my finger in the air seeing what's out there. I still like to drive, and see the country, would be kinda cool to get paid a little to do that.

Yeah that wouldn't be bad at all. My driving career was all in MA - that's why I don't miss it. I had the worst of the worst - bumping docks 30x a day in the most congested cities. If I spent ANY time outside of the Northeast, I probably would still be driving. I've been across the country 6 times in my own vehicle and loved every minute of it.

I recently drove to Chicago for a wedding. Traffic was awful, the people on the road were awful. That being said, the 9 hour drive home with my wife and 3 daughters to Kansas City was the most amazing drive I have ever taken in a while! I love the open roads and laid back attitudes.

I do a lil hauling on the side when I can. Gotta justify the 3/4 ton somehow!

The trick I learned with traveling was going right at the speed limit, calmer driving experience. Everyone is passing you and your just cruising along with little stress. No yo-yo driving 85-75 all day, just 70 most of the time. You may arrive 10-15 minutes later after a day of driving, your not as tried or nearly as stressed. It took me years to learned that. When they finally raised the speed limit the last time it was fast enough for me.

I agree! I set the cruise at 2mph over the speed limit, and it was smooth sailing. I still felt like I was "saving time" by going a lil faster, but I wasn't fearful of catching Johnny Law around the blind corner or having to slam on my brakes because I couldn't switch lanes.

Being in a hurry all the time, every day is in our DNA up here. I haven't quite been able to get that out of my system, although I'm 10x more relaxed than I was in my teen years. To everyone else around the country I'm an animal behind the wheel, but for up here I'm somewhat normal.

Commuting on super-congested, paved cow-paths your entire life will do that to ya ...

I lock it at 72 regardless of the speed limit. If you go 85 on i70 you'll still be slower than some traffic anyway.

I try to spend as little time on the interstate as possible and drive empty 2 lanes whenever I can.

When I drive in other parts of the country or with people from other places they are horrified how we drive in MA.

101_0277_zpss0xfcknx.jpgStill hooked up. Only 300 miles left for tonight. Pulled better than expected lack of wind first night. Did 65 mph. Getting up to speed takes a while though.

Parents looking for a newer vehicle, their 02 trailblazer may be dead soon. Found a 2006 Denali Truck, looks to be in very good condition throughout, with 135k miles, for 14k OBO, guy is clear in ad he will take less...

Is it just me or does that seem like a great deal, if they could get it for 12?

I found it, not sure if they would want it.

I saw some regret when he passed on my mazda and now the dealer marked it up 4K.

Still mulling over the 8100. I just got my BB gift cards and points for the phones. $190 in certs and $200 in cards. With the $100 rebate visa that puts it at $900. $200+ of harnesses to keep everything. Tax and all around $1200 if I install myself.

Very tempting. The 2013 nav disc I tried didnt add any significant firmware updates to keep me interested.

Being on the road all day I see a lot of tortoise and hare stories. I tend to just putt along. One day I remember I was doing about 60 and was passed by one vehicle doing 75 four times. Stop at a truck stop for the night. Next morning as I'm pulling out there he is pulling in.

Makes you think are you really saving time driving faster than everyone else?

    • I am new to this… but I saw some of your replies to another person doing the same as me… trying to replace the temp control actuator in my 05 GMC SIERRA, And can NOT get to it… how do I get the center console panels off, do I have to take ALL of them off to get to it? 80481681120__F97CE005-C5E5-4FBF-9589-1388214E3586.MOV

    • Although there is a "recommended" weight by those who sell trailers, my experience has been that they are way too aggressive in their information, for me at least. My '22 with 6.6 Gas, has a payload of about 3400 lbs and depending on your specs (I don't have 4WD so it has a bit higher Payload than others) yours will likely be different. Payload is one of the most important numbers for towing. Although you "could" tow the max trailer weight for your truck, I, personally, would not go close to that number. Having said that, a lot depends on how/where you will be towing. I live in the LMD of BC and often tow to Denver, Co, along interstates (flat and mountains) and I find I need to keep it in 5th (6spd) for the trip and travel at around 65mph. This is for a trailer dry weight of just under 3500lbs. If you are only doing local, short trips, it would not be that big an issue if you had a heavier unit. You will be surprised how much stuff you load the trailer with, so I would only recognize the trailers "full" GVWR weight rating, then decide on the appropriate trailer from that number. If you are worrying about how much stuff you should be putting in a trailer, you might have too large a rig from the get-go. Once again, depending on what terrain/distance in which you will be pulling. Marv
    • davester, Thanks for the response, how ever, I think I am now a bit more confused than I was before I posted - - After I posted, I actually found a YT video of a guy who replaced his Module (above tire) and he only disconnected the ground cable of the battery, but you describe rubbing the two cables together after disconnecting. I presume that is to do as you describe and eliminate any residual energy? - When I picked up the Module (between my posting and reading your response) from the dealer, I specifically asked about any re-programming and he stated it was not necessary as it was simply plug and play. Don't know how knowledgeable he is, though. - The video I watched also showed the Module plug to be difficult to "unlock" and remove, but there was no mention of silicone, although the video did show a bunch of dust/dirt in and around the plug (old truck) during removal. Are you talking about silicone that was applied by the factory, or silicone that you applied prior to plugging in? Thanks again, Marv
