I gave up trying to keep mine clean around year 6. A black truck is ALWAYS dirty ...

 

 

Did a brake job on a '13 Subaru Outback today, and fed it some Amsoil. I like Subaru's engineering - they put these two M8 x 1.25 threaded holes opposite each other, plus a dimple in the end of the axle, so you can actually get a decent puller on the rusty rotors. Effortless removal! GM could learn a thing or 2 here. Also liked the normal pistons in the rear caliper - that's a catch 22, because the screw-in type pistons (aka VW) have a superior parking brake design.

 

Having a mini-drum with shoes for a parking brake seems totally ridiculous to me - why not just make the entire damn brake a DRUM brake? WTF. You'd think it would be cheaper, and keep the bean-counters happy. I gave up trying to understand automotive engineering around the '96 model year ....

 

At least that's one of a handful of things GM got right on my truck. DRUM rears.
