Watched the mpgs continue to improve.

Same here. I've started driving mine on longer trips instead of the 2 miles one way to work and back. So far it's up to 14.5 from 12.9, and it's still climbing. The short trips really kill my mileage.

plasti-dip'd my front chrome grill. All black now.

 

Gotta figure what to do with my fog lights now. so annoyed. I've done cheap putco bulbs, hids, the current LED, and nothing seems to last more then half a dozen months. Would love Ridged setup, but I'd have to remortgage the house to afford it with the cdn dollar as it is lol.

That's probably the one thing I haven't had a problem with on my truck. Just OEM fogs, nothing fancy.

i wanted more light though. stockers worked until one went out. Then i went on this never ending quest for replacements and more light.

or just go with some cheaper LED fogs again to replace the current ones. JDM Astars maybe.

It seems with these new lighting systems, you have to shell out some $$$ to get decent quality. I just upgraded a wall pack motion light here to LED - was over $100 just for the guts! All Cree LEDs, & the electronics were set in epoxy for waterproofing, so should last a while.

 

A few years back I converted our '86 Grand Marquis low beams to HID. Cost close to a few hundred, but I haven't had a single issue with them so far. This thing doesn't see winter or road salt, so that's a big factor too. Was pleased to see all German components, instead of Chinese. Guess you can't try to save a buck when it comes to these things.

so true. The current led lights I got from Hidguymodshop....and buddy has closed up. So no reply to my warranty request. Didnt think i was going cheap either.

Sorry I haven't contributed lately, my computer(s) have been messing up my account...let's see...

 

Oil change, oil and filter this time, still leaking a qt every 600 miles

Lubed the undercarriage, those grease fittings on the pitman/idler arm are so much easier to get to with no splash shield in the way...still looking to fab a shield out of a sheet of aluminum that I scrounged up.

Replaced passenger side hub bearing.

Finally located the clunk and click in driver's side front...need to replace axle shaft...has to wait until next pay day.

Located a replacement piece for across the front of the engine over top of the radiator. It was completely missing when I bought the truck. Went to a salvage yard and found one from a wrecked truck that was identical (to include paint color) to my truck. That one must have been diesel as there is a sticker on it that status "Max fuel tank quantity: 100 gallons".

Discovered where my blower fan issue is...for whatever reason as I would be driving along with AC on the air flow would slowly diminish and then no air flow. After cutting of the AC, and driving for a few more miles the air flow would come back to normal. So my AC is need of some serious maintenance. I think I'm going to leave that to a pro to figure that one out. I don't have the time, tools or experience to further diagnose the problem.

 

Now for what I've used the truck for and other maintenance.

Hauled 20 sheets of plywood to my shop from a local lumber yard.

Bought and brought home a mini bike to fix up (for fun) & continuing to work on my little Honda engine...we'll see if I can fit it in the frame of the bike

Changed oil in the wife's Jeep

Serviced my golf cart batteries, they were pretty low on water

Hauled a couple of nitrogen cylinder downtown down and back to a local place to be tested...heavy/bulky buggers

Went to Lowe's to get a replacement burner element for the stove...old one kind of got cooked due to we had a grease fire under the element...oops!

Replaced the overhead light in the stove

Hauled away a pile of scrap metal to my landlord's place for recycling

 

...and of course...

Had a few cups of coffee while driving to and from work

Had a few beers while shooting the bull with the neighbors

 

Think I'm all caught up... :driving:

Those damn things usually end up on my exhaust ...

I always swerve to avoid bags on the road, they are a menace.

That was happening would have hit a wall or car. I knew he bag hit the front but didn't realize it got sucked in

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
