It got me in the seat of this truck. It may not seem like they notice, but they notice. I started at my gig four years ago, and have gotten two promotions and eight raises. I turned down a supervisor's job about a year ago because I make more money hourly and can work a few extra hours if I need some extra cash. I'm not white collar anymore, gave the neck noose up many years ago. I'm a consumer commodity allocation and disburment specialist. Yep, a dockworker. It's also a matter of pride. I lose plenty of sleep working nights, but I don't lose a drop feeling guilty about half a$$ing my way through a shift. It may sound like a dodge or Chevy commercial, but busting our a$$es and taking pride in what we do is what built this great nation, slowing down to the minimum required is what's helping the rest of 'em catch us. Not on my watch.

Wow. Sorry about that. My soapbox is a bit taller after witnessing twelve hours of this philosophical struggle.

Means I'm not going anywhere when/if layoffs happen my boss says I'm versatile she can put me anywhere and knows it will get done right and quick

Working my ass off got me a hurt back, and it getting worse and worse, only to get let go when I wasn't very useful to them with my back how it is. So I feel slightly different

I was disposable. That's how the trucking company felt. I went from working as a mechanic to crane inspections, to DOT inspections, to paperwork, to no job

That's why I'm on my 5th shop job they seem to care about keeping me here so I'm doing what I can to keep it that way

I was busting out crane inspections 3 a day. One more than the shop average. DOT inspections I would do 3 a day if they required a service, 4 a day if they didnt. Trailer DOT's I did 4 a day. But My back got worse and I slowed up. They did not like that

So I got to talk to a police officer in Texas today. Boy do they do it different!

 

Headed back to the hotel from the customer site and I crest a hill and see two officers running a speed trap on the left side of the road (median), I look down and I'm doing 80 (damn 300 is so much smoother than the truck!). I knew I was busted so I slowed down. The officer walks out into the lane, pointed at me than pointed at the shoulder of the road. Said he got me at 78 in a 60. Went back, ran my license and came back and said just to watch my speed in the future and to have a nice night. Got lucky on that one but it's also been more than 4 years since I've been stopped so my record is clean anyhow.

 

Still not as good as a girl who was a friend of a friend I knew- we were headed back from my friends place and she was ahead of me absolutely flying. She went around a bend and got lit up. I pulled off ahead to get gas and she pulled in after. Said she was clocked at 75 in a 40, let go with a warning! I should add that when I first saw her that night my first question was if she had borrowed a shirt from her son to wear (he was six back then) so that probably helped her case!

Filled the truck up with 20 gallons of gas and drove 180 miles with a leaky radiator. So a new radiator is on my list of things to fix. Shouldn't be bad replacing one. Anyone got any tips/ tricks to replacing one?
