Acadia vs Yukon vs Escalade

I previously leased an 07 Yukon SLT 4wd loved the vehicle but it seemed to have alot of body roll. Living in southwest VA you are always driving around a curve, not alot of straight roads. So when the lease was up we purchased a 2010 Acadia SLT AWD. Body roll was significantly decreased, of course you have a lower center of gravity and unibody construction. Now we are thinking about trading again and would like to have the ride of the acadia with the higher drivers position of the yukon. So we are looking at a 2010 Escalade AWD with magnetic ride control. Is the magnetic ride control really much smoother than the suspension of the other full-size GM SUV's? Just want to know if anybody has experience driving these vehicles and what should be expected. Thanks for the replies.

I don't have any personally experience but I would make sure you take the potential new vehicles out for a real good test drive. When I go for a test drive, I drive it like I already own it so I know exactly what to expect once I own it. Then you will have personal experience of what you like/dislike before you purchase.

If the magnetic ride is anything like the cts-v, vette, or camaro zl1 then yes it should make a big difference in handling

I have watched GM's video on it, but it doesn't explain much. Does it firm up with speed and soften up at slower speeds?

Magnetic Ride Control

Enjoy a smooth, steady ride, courtesy of the world's fastest-reacting suspension system. Sensors read road conditions up to 1,000 times per second and damper settings adjust almost instantly to respond to conditions. System can read every inch of the road at 60 mph.

If the only issue you had with the Yukon was body roll, take a look at getting some sway bars.

A complete kit would probably run around $400 - $500 and will make a HUGE difference in handling.

Hint: Hellwig makes some pretty good stuff, check them out if you're interested in going this route.

Read this and be wowed

The dampers are filled with magnetorheological fluid, a mixture of easily magnetized iron particles in a synthetic hydrocarbon oil. In each of the monotube dampers is a piston containing two electromagnetic coils and two small fluid passages through the piston. The electromagnets are able to create a variable magnetic field across the fluid passages. When the magnets are off, the fluid travels through the passages freely. However, when the magnets are turned on, the iron particles in the fluid create a fibrous structure through the passages in the same direction of the magnetic field. The strength of the bonds between the magnetized iron particles causes the viscosity of the fluid to increase resulting in a stiffer suspension. Altering the strength of the current results in an instantaneous change in force of the piston.[2] If the sensors sense any body roll, they communicate the information to the ECU. The ECU will compensate for this by changing the strength of the current to the appropriate dampers.

Where at in Southwest VA you live? I also live in this area.

Isn't the Acadia a V8? I kinda like those for some random reason. I guess its where I don't see too much of them.

I thought they did. Thats stupid. Thought Acadia was an upgrade from the Traverse with a bigger engine.

In that case I would get a Yukon, but the Caddy is really nice too.

Thanks for the replies guys, and thanks AGT great explanation (cadillac might need you on there website). Stinsan 3 i am in washington county, but am looking to purchase in charlotte, nc. They price similiar Escalades $6000-8000 cheaper than the local guys (pioneer chevrolet, bill gatton and champion chevrolet). Locally they are waiting on the good ol boy to walk on the lot, and don't do much with internet sales.

I had a soft ride body sway problem with my 04 Tahoe, I eliminated it by purchasing "Bilstein" heavy duty shocks for both the front and rear, and replaced the rear springs with the Bilstein units (not lowering springs).

This setup was not that expensive to do, and gave me a much firmer ride.
