Changing over to Ams Oil

Recommended Posts

Posted

I just purchased a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD, Crew cab, 4x4 with a 6.0L with 57,000 miles. I was talking with a co-worker who changed all his fluids to Ams Oil and gained some MPG. I was wondering if anyone on here was using Ams Oil and what the pros and cons of a change might be? Also the pros and cons of the by pass?

I run Amsoil in my truck. Good stuff. Most everybody that uses their stuff swears by it.

Do you run just their oil or their other fluids too?

All of there oils are good the only fluid they make that I would not use is there antifreeze and that is just because of the price of it. I recently switched over to amsoil in my truck with 115k on the clock and my truck seems to like it. The only thing I would say to do is not listen to amsoils drain intervals do what the manufactor says to do. Just my two cents

Have your oil tested if you want to find out what your extended change intervals should be

I didnt think about testing it. I figured i would run 5-7,000 miles between changes. I cant hardly imagine 15 or 25,000 miles, that seems crazy and rediculous. thanks for the replys. i'll keep you posted

The only con I have found is cost/availablility.

Although it was a Cummins, I've ran almost 45k on a single oil change (with a bypass filter) of regular Rotella and the oil analysis indicated "suitable for continued use"...oil doesn't break down as quickly as we are lead to believe, even conventionals. Most synthetics are better suited for the longer drain intervals.

Without an oil analysis however, you're just guessing.

AMSOIL has been around since 1972, all the other synthetics on the market copied them.

I have used AMSOIL since 1975 in everything. I always change oil once every year. Just changed over my 2012 Sierra Denali to all AMSOIL at 4,000 miles. My CTS is all AMSOIL and been for the last 2+ yrs. I have never changed oil at the OEM intervals, I do one year.

I wish my friend John were here to tell you how many miles he has on his 2000 Kenworth (Cat engine) running AMSOIL HDD 5W-30 diesel oil, Donaldson Endurance oil filter and AMSOIL HD By-Pass oil filter. Lets just say its over 100,000 miles and the oil is still good. He does oil analysis every 10,000 miles, changes the Donaldson filter every 50,000 and the HD By-Pass between 75,000-100,000 miles. Right now he is on the road somewhere in WI, MN, IA. One of his buds was changing changing his oil just about every 10K on Rotella, afraid to go longer. That was every 2 months, he was buying the Rotella by the drum. John got him to switch to AMSOIL and from every 10,000 to every 30,000 miles on the oil, using a Cat oil filter and the AMSOIL HD Bypass. Not only that, he told me he gained 0.6 mpg switching to the AMSOIL and that was saving him a lot on fuel costs. He has been running it for about 3 yrs now and says, never will he go back to what he was using.

Go look up Jeff Foster Trucking (Superior, WI), they have over 200 trucks on the road and all of them are running AMSOIL synthetic lubes. The change out the oem lubes whent they get them and install all AMSOIL. There is 3 other trucking firm in that area running AMSOIL as well, I cannot recall all the names; Sue Vinje, Guardian, and another that I cannot recall. ?Evans. They all can't be that dumb.
