GM is now using a PC based version of the Tech 2 instead of the handheld. If a dealership sells one to you with the GM software still on it, they are in big trouble. Plus, even if you do get one with GM software you will not be able to update or fix the current software without support from GM.

and ya cant tweak anything with it ,,,and ya need a candi mdule to .......2 much money for a tool for a non tech,,,,if ya want to program, that'll cost ya a perscription to GM....

You can do "home diagnostics" with a OBD2 from an autoparts store gor a fraction of the cost. Paying a huge amount of money fir the model used by dealers is a waste, can't do anything with it but read and reset codes.

Agreed. I have a Bluetooth adapter and an app that will pull codes, give explanations, possible causes and fixes, and do telemetry. I have the app on my phone and tablet.

The adapter was less than $20 on amazon I believe. The ELM 327 is the name. And there are a few apps for it. The one I used was $5 or $10 i dont remember, but there are free ones and some that cost leas

You're partially right. If you're not properly trained in how to use one, it WOULD be a waste of time for someone to own a Tech 2.
