Adding Trailer Brake Controller

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra, newest body style, that I bought new. This truck didn't come with the integrated trailer brake controller from the factory or even a trailer hitch. I added a trailer hitch and seven pin connector. Now I want to add an aftermarket Trailer Brake Controller. I have no idea what all is involved and would greatly appreciate some guidance.

Thank You,

Steve

Im sorta in the same boat. I'll be adding a controller before next spring. But from what Ive read here, Prodigy 2 or 3 seem to get the most votes. I think on the pre 09 models, you can buy a pig tail that simply plugs in under the dash and you're good to go. 09+ they did away with that plug, and left the wires loose. Just gotta wire them up. Lots of videos online how to wire them though.

I'm pretty sure the under dash connector went away with the 900s. There is a wire bundle you splice into on the 900s.

I put one on my 08 last year. Pretty straight forward. My truck was a tow package equipped truck with a hitch and connector mounted in the bumper and the harness wires were coiled and stowed under the dash left side.

It is just 5 wires loomed up there. The great thing is there is a tag with the discription of the wires. i only used 4 out of the 5 wires since my controler does not have dimming capabilities

When installing the controller, don't forget to hook up the two wires to the posts on the fuse box under the hood. You will also need to buy a 40amp fuse for the brake controller to work. It will show you i nthe directions where to install the fuse.
