Marks on paint

Does anyone else have marks like these on their vehicle? They're mostly on the hood of my truck. Average size is about 1/8"-3/16" x 1/2"-3/4". The clear coat has been damaged by something but it just looks strange to me. Not your typical rock chips. They all run lengthwise on the truck. They're most common on the hood but i have a few on the sides of the truck where it seems unlikely that a rock chip would occur. The truck is a 2008 with 70,000 miles and I live in Michigan.

My guess would be bug splatter. Bugs left on the paint can etch the clear coat. A buffer with the right pad and polish will remove them. It looks like you have a fair amount of swirl marks too. Maybe time for a detailing.

+1 on the bug splatter, bug guts, bird crap can be very corrosive to paint if not removed. I had some on my wifes Traverse and the stuff ate into the paint., I had to use clearcoat polishing compound to remove.

 

It could also be a chemical that came off a vehicle or truck trailer and got on your paint and ate through, that happened to a guy I work with.
