Transfer case change.

I tried searching but didn't find any answers that satisfied me. I first changed the fluid at 50,000. Truck now has 100,000. I was wondering if I could use royal purple synchromax for it or if I should continue using the auto-trak. It seems that the general opinion on the inter-web is that the auto-trak is just blue-dyed synthetic trans fluid.

I think the autotrac fluid has modifiers in it for the automatic system.

Royal Purple specifically states that Synchromax is not recommended for GM applications requiring Dexron VI. But there seems to be a fair sized group of people that chose to use Royal Purple regardless of RP's recommendations and GM recommendations. Why? I have no idea. They must think they are getting something better than the manufacturer of the truck and the maker of the oil recommend. It's your call.

 

You can get Castrol Dexron VI at O'Reilly and Autozone. I'm running it in my x-fer case now and my trans, having just changed it last weekend at 100,000 miles. My last truck went well past 200,000 miles and is still going for my friend that bought it. I used name brand recommended spec fluids, with Mobil 1 for the engine.

You have me second guessing my selection of Dexron VI in my xfer case. I thought it was what was specified in my owner's manual or my maintenance manual. Can you verify the right xfer case fluid for my 08 NHT?

Yes,the GMT900's use DexronVI ATF,or manual transmission fluid (part#88861800),not AutoTrak.

Upon further investigation,Looks like you can use Royal Purple SYNCHROMAX in place of AutoTrak.....
