Powder Coating Chrome Bumpers

Recommended Posts

You guys think the front and rear bumpers on a silver truck would look alright powder coated gloss black? Other option is paint to match body color, however its more expensive and may not match exactly. Which way would you go?

i personally dont think they would look good gloss black.. it would look shitty IMO.

i have seen color matched bumpers on the 900's and they look much better.

Well I bought my Sierra specifically to get chrome bumpers and not body color caps so you know what I think.

But if you were to paint or coat the bumpers, make sure the shop you use knows how to prep a chrome bumper before coating because chrome showing through where there are chips and scratches will really look bad.

Might it be better to buy new bumpers that are already painted black and sell your chrome ones?

Black will make it look like a cheap work truck model

i dont think you can powdercoat a plastic bumper?

You can't, only the chrome parts from what I understand. I guess black is not the way to go, back to the drawing board.

Body color if your gonna paint it, not sure what paint would cost but any decent shop should get a 99% match,

Paint quote was $500 for both bumpers, powder both $250. Only reason I was even considering black powder was because its cheaper and more durable from what I hear.

Alot less prepwork goes into powdercoating in most cases. And it is better then paint.

You could always check out your local pick/pull a part and see if they have some already painted bumpers

i vinyl wrapped my rear bumper (front was already color matched) can not tell a bit of difference at all, if it scratches i rip it off and put new on.

have you check you local line-x dealer. i had my box and nurf bars sprayed on my last truck still looking good at trade in (145,000miles).

This doesn't sound bad, mind giving me an idea of cost?

I'm pretty sure powder can be color matched pretty closely. At any rate, colormatch all day!

The two powder shops in town saif they could get it pretty close, but I'm worried because the silver they had was a bit darker. Probably just going to have them painted I guess.

Black was a momentary lack in judgement, don't worry.
