Brightest reverse bulbs?

Recommended Posts

Looking into finally getting a backup camera to go along with my ogm1. What are the brightest bulbs I can get in the tails? I had the tailights off the other day and there are sylvania in there now...not sure of the kind.

I have some 50 watt halogens from Design Tech that I originally bought for my 1998 Silverado. When I bought the 2011 Sierra I swapped them in and they work fine. Very bright and have been in use for years.

I recommend Retro-Solutions CREE 5W bulbs. Here's a link to my post with pictures. They come with a lifetime guarantee and it's like having HID lights in reverse. CREE 5W LED. You can't go wrong.

This was the "must have" last year.

if they are the 3156 bulb (single filiment) there are aftermarket companies that make them in higher wattage (safe) and a whiter light, they are usually "blue" coated bulbs.

Check out this sight:

Here would be a perfect example:

I haven't seen the hids, but I have a crew cab long bed with tinted windows and I can now see behind me. Even when backing my boat down the ramps early morning. Couldn't see crap before.

IMO, the CREE LED's have fewer parts so potentially will last longer even though HID's are rated to last longer. These turn on/off much more often than head lights surely that impacts HID's lifetime, LED's not so much. They also install in literally minutes, like maybe 5 minutes total.

so are the CREE led's lot better then regular led's ? i have a regular set of led's not much light, even w/back-up camera. that's why i thinking of hid's

I am willing to order a pair but there are three types of 3156 3157 T20 bulbs to fit 3156 3157 3056 3057 3457 4157.

Top with radial, top only, top only in amber.

This note is included:

- Radial version are not made for use on systems regulated above normal "12v" operation

- For 4114K bulb fixtures (14V), use top LED version only, lifespan may be decreased

What gives? I want radial for omnidirectional lighting but are they saying these should not be used over 12V? I mean my Suburban is a 12V system but potentially could be over 14V at times. I am not sure what they are saying. I may call them later. Does anyone here have any clarification?

I'm trying to do my own homework. I could just ask, what Cree backup replacement lamps do I need in a 2006 Suburban GMT800?

Thanks a bunch for any help.

I have two sets of the CREE lights. The radial LEDs put out a lot of light close by the truck which is great for back up cameras. I also have the top LED only bulbs and they concentrate the light straight out the back like headlights. I haven't had a problem with either bulb.

I can pull even with the pole light, put the truck in reverse, and the CREE LED's throw a brighter pattern on the ground than the pole light. Yes the pole light is Metal halide so not the whitest light but still, the CREE 5w LED's outshine the pole light hands down.

Post that might answer all your questions:
