How to keep dealer from denting or scratching truck

I had my 2011 Silverado in the dealer over night for some warranty work. My truck has 7000 miles on it and is flawless, no dents or scratches. Well, when I got home from the dealer I noticed a ding right in the middle of the chrome piece on the rear bumper. It was a small ding but with the mirror effect it looked as big as a quarter. I thought since I had already brought it home there was nothing I could do so I purchased a new chrome section for my bumper and replaced it myself at the cost of about $300.

How do you guys prevent this from happening ? Do you have the service advisor walk around the truck and make notes about it not having any scratches or dents and then walk around it again when you pick it up ?

I always cringe when I have to take it to the dealer because of this.

I now have the transmission dipstick recall but am hesitant about getting it repaired because i don't want anymore dents.

First option would be to switch dealerships, second may be to explain the situation and treat every check in and out like a rental car return. Third option is in the center console, but I think options one and two would be a good start...

You need to snap pictures in front of the service writer with your phone. Have him agree that there is no damage prior to you letting the truck in to their possession. I put a car in for service once at a Chevy dealer, and they brought it out to me with the driver's side mirror dangling and a dent. The service writer admitted THEIR parts truck backed in to it. They kept it another week and fixed it.

I dropped off a '98 S10 blazer for warranty work once, got back in, went to tilt down the steering wheel and the lever(pot metal base) popped off in my hand. They said that I must have done that somewhere else and brought it in like that. I showed them the still wet black goop on my hand and shirt that they tried to glue it back on with. They checked with the mechanic who said he knew nothing about it and then told me the he's honest and it didn't happen there. I went ballistic on the service manager at the main counter with customers wide eyed and watching, he told me to calm down, and I told him to fix it or I'd call the police and GM. He then took me in his office and offered to order the part and put it on from his mobile service van anywhere I'd like. When they called ten days later I had them drive 30 miles to i different dealership and had them install it in the used car line as I drove up in my new 2500HD and told them that their lying asses just lost a $40,000 truck sale.

I have dealt with the same dealer for many years now, if I have any issues, they fix it right up, no questions asked. Sometimes it pays to stick it out and build a relationship.

I dropped by truck off at a local dealer to have the brake fluid replaced. A few days later I noticed the one of my rims was coated with a film. A week later the clear coat was beginning to peel off. Upon further inspection, I found the inside of all my rims were covered with brake fluid. I couldn't belive they didn't remove the wheels when they were bleeding the brakes! When I brought my truck back, the dealership was just going out of business (Raines Chevrolet in Sunnyvale, Ca) and the service dept had just closed. This was when GM was closing dealerships. I called GM corporate and they basically said sorry, but there was nothing they could do. So now after 3 years all my rims look like crap with brake fluid etched clear coat. Pathetic... GM dealerships in my opinion actually induce a lot of problems. I've have more stories regarding a free interior detail that turned my blue carpets purple on tmy GMC, a broken taillight, a free car wash on my 2 week old truck that was done with a scrub bush and ruined the paint, etc. A lot of people working in these dealerships are hacks and don't give a crap...
