dorman sensor vs gm?

I replaced my front right impact sensor less than two years with OEM and have another failure. I think I'll try the Dorman version given the price and maybe it'll last longer than the OEM version.

Dorman is a decent brand but I've always been weary about aftermarket electrical parts, especially with something as sensitive as the airbag system. But for half the price so long as it doesn't pop the airbag because I faults out I guess it's ok if it doesn't last!

Some additional information based on my experience. Having the Service Airbag light come on and the subsequent searchs here let me to the drivers side impact sensor.

Picture below, looks like corrosion and maybe frozen water related damage. I did not find a post the listed the GM part numbers and Dorman numbers. Since I have a 2008 Silverado it can be easy to buy the wrong Doman sensor.

2005 - 2007 Silverado Classic GM part number 10370149 Dorman cross ref number 590 - 200

2007 - 2008 Silverado GM part number 15297348 Dorman cross ref number 590 - 206

I found some of the online catalogs were pointing me to the Dorman 590 - 200 which will not work in my 2008 Silverado

How do you find out which sensor is bad? how do you change it? Disconnect the battery? is it ROCKET SCIENCE??

you have it scanned like i told ya to do ,it may not be a an impact sensor ,,,,,,,thats why ya scan the trucks SRS module for the code ,then get it diagnosed

Thanks Rob.

Its not the normal scan that will be done by AUTOZONE? is it? Are there places that will do it for free?

How long did you disconnect battery for?

Again thank you very much Rob!

autozone scanners i believe cannot read SRS codes , any garage that has a decent scanner can read it ,,,

why do ya want to disconnect the battery ?

just get it scanned and return here with the code

Not trying to resurrect a dead thread. But I'm driving a 05 crew cab Silverado with the short bed. Doorman 590-200 says it won't fit my truck via amazon, and their website says 05 crew cab with a 134 wheel base. Am I just being to picky and these will work, or is there some difference I don't know about.

Thanks!

Always get the right sensor for those crash sensors as they may look the same, but the plugs are different the slightest bit. 590-204 is the Dorman for a Crew Cab Short Box 2005 1500.

I replaced both front sensors with the Dorman units about a year ago due to one failing due to corrosion. I have had zero problems.
