Well there might be some people that might have an illegal gun that don't want it, the hardened criminals would not be stopped. Will not stop people who want to own illegal weapons and use them for crime.

Any American citizen that believes in the Constitution will not go for such a thing. That is a ploy to disarm the people. Why anybody would basically give away their right to defend themselves is out of their mind. The politicians know times are tough, they are the ones that made it that way. What sounds better to people who may be down on their luck than some easy cash????

Even if you did need cash, I can't imagine selling a gun for that little.

Unless you robbed a house and needed to offload your stolen guns, no questions asked.

The police run all the serial numbers before they're destroyed to make sure they aren't stolen but I don't recall ever seeing an article stating a buyback recovered xx stolen guns which reaffirms my thought they're just an expensive (for the tax payers) feel good measure.

Bingo!

When I first read about this there was no care where the guns came from. As a matter of fact, the article said the city didn't care if you "found" them in your basement. They didn't care what it was or how you got it..... Apparently they've changed their tune a little.

From what I hear, there is a pretty lucrative business in buying up junk/broken/non-working guns and then turning them in for cash at the buy backs. Some pictures of the buy back results even show old BB guns, etc.

There are even groups that use the money to then buy new guns and start shooting clubs, etc.
