Leaks

99 Silverado Z71 w/ 5.3, I bought it back in May and knew I had a leak from the driver side front axle seal.

Recently I have been noticing a second spot underneath on the driveway. Got under neath and see the rear bottom of the engine coated in oil.

Closer look shows what looks like a leak from the oil filter adapter plate? Was surprised I didnt have the oil cooler lines.

While under the front it looked like the power steering pump or lines were leaking. Took off the plastic plate under the front and saw this:

And this:

Water pump starting to go?

So my questions are:

Is that the oil filter adapter leaking and is the repair just the O rings?

Is it the power steering pump leaking or maybe just a seal? How big of a job is that?

How difficult is the water pump?

I am fairly mechanically inclined and enjoy fixing stuff especially on vehicles. However some things arent worth the time/effort. Thanks for any assistance/info.

On the driver side front axle seal, when you do it be sure to check the gear case vent directly above the axle. The is a large plastic piece that screws into the differential where vent hose goes on. It has a place for a socket, make sure it is snug. They sometimes loosen and the leak looks like it is from the axle seal.

Could be the axle vent but that looks like the seal and it's common. Just don't end up like me paying a shop to do it and now magically after they did some warranty work because it was leaking again lose a bearing in the front diff........ this is what I get for not doing wanting to do something myself. The only crappy thing is if the 8.25" is like the 9.25" where the drivers side stub shaft sticks in the side requiring you to split the diff and pound it out breaking the spring clip that holds it in place. That might just be a 9.25" problem though.

Waterpump is about the easiest thing ever. It might just be the gaskets to the block but being a 99 just change the pump out. Once you get the shroud and clutch fan off it's only your tensioner pulley and 6 bolts plus your hoses...... Simple. I use my tool to pull the grinding disc on my makita grinder to hold the water pump pulley and just a 24" crecent wrench. They come off like nothing like that. Generally even holding the belt tensioner to add tension the belt will not hold it to break the fan loose.

PS pump seal isn't bad either so just buy the puller. I tried switching pumps on mine and after 3 "new" ones that howled like a roots blower I put a front seal on my original.

Looks like the oil cooler gasket to the block.....2 bolts and it's done.
