Anyone have access to GM document #PIT5166C

The radio in my 2012 Silverado emits a loud, annoying and constant high pitched noise, even when shut off. Apparently, GM acknowledged the issue and said it was due to a cooling fan in the radio. They outlined this in PIT5166A and PIT5166B. However, they said the issue was normal and to not replace the radio, and that GM was working on a fix. I read on another forum that GM came out with a revised notice, PIT5166C, but I can't find reference to it anywhere. I was wondering if anyone has access to PIT5166C and if so, does it authorize a repair or radio replacement? I know I could probably call the dealer, I just want to do a little research to see if its worth my time to take the truck in. Thanks

It is not nav or bose, just regular CD. Start your truck, turn the volume down, if you have it you'll hear it. It's a distinctive buzz/hum from the radio deck.

I just took ownership of a new 2013 Sierra SLE about two weeks ago......it has the standard factory radio/speakers.

 

I too have noticed the high pitch noise....which led me to google....and that led me to this topic/forum.

 

Is it safe to say there is a definate fix via replacing the radio? I have yet to call my dealer but want to have my research done before I do.

 

Any further insights would be appreciated. Thx, John

I just dropped my 2012 GMC SIerra off this am for this & a couple other concerns. My truck has the "UUI" radio head unit. I'll let you guys know how it turns out...

I picked up my 2012 Sierra yesterday evening. That annoying buzz noise is gone, the new replacement radio head cured it.

Does this apply to the Bose system too? My '12 Sierra does it, but it seems to vary in pitch with the throttle, or get higher pitch as engine rpm increases. Maybe not the same issue but definitely a noticeable whine.
