Fuel quality vs. performance

There's a gas station not far from home that sells ethanol-free gasoline. I was using (before hand) 85 octane unleaded, which did ok, but then it got to where my truck wouldn't perform as well. So I up'd it to 88 octane, and it ran better. Now I'm on the E-Free 88 octane. I know with older vehicles the best gas is contaminant free, i.e. no oxygenators, no alcohol, stuff like that. But on a newer truck? What should I expect? How will my truck perform? what about the life span of some fo the parts like sensors, valves and injectors?

Ethanol free is better. You should see better mileage and performance as ethanol is only 25% as efficient as a fuel as gasoline.

E85 is better for performance. It has an appx 107 octane rating. Correct on the milage though it drops.

I almost thought about putting racing gas from my local shell in the truck, but 4.89 a gallon is expensive and I don't want to harm the truck lol.

You wont harm your truck you will kill it.

When a pump-gas engine is subjected to a higher-octane race fuel, it may result in a decrease in power from an incomplete burn.

Have you checked here

Looks like easily two thirds, if not more of the ones in Michigan are at marinas or airfields. Not too helpful.

I run the startron ethanol treatment and Its is one of the few additives that actually work! when i 1st tried it i was amazed.. I felt the difference almost instantly, So i run it in every vehicle and my small engine stuff! Wish there was a station here with ethanol free.

@ryan- you can run e-85 in a regular truck/engine or no?

Ron, I believe you can if you are tuned for it. Might need new injectors.

The newer trucks can run it with no modification. GM did it on some models starting in the mid-2000s.

My truck is a flex fuel truck. Non flex fuel trucks can run it but the fuel lines and injectors over time will not be able to handle the corrosiveness.

+1, it also attacks the seals in a non E-85 fuel system.
