Sylvania Silverstar Ultras, are they worth it? Im looking for a whiter beam instead of the normal yellow and i was told to get silverstar ultras but i have heard both good and bad reviews about them. Have any of you used them before?

Pro, Brighter

Con, shorter life, expensive.

IMO look for a set of projector lights for your truck.

Or what a lot of people do is put HID's in factory housings.. I did it in my old truck but be warned, doing this you will get flashed if you dont turn your beams down a little bit. Thats what Idid, aimed down a little and i was good to go in my old truck.

The Ultras would be ok if they are for your 2000. They have poor lifespan in any vehicle that uses the low beam lamp for DRLs, like the GMT 900s. I've got a set in my gmt 800, been going over 5 years now. Same for my Lincoln TC.

I guess the lifespan of the Silverstar Ultras varies from truck to truck. My '06 Sierra went through them every 8-12 months. I bought a set shortly after moving to Louisiana, and they are much better than the bulbs I replaced. Less than a year later, one went out, so I had to pull over and reinstall the good regular bulb I'd replaced with an Ultra. Having the mixed bulbs for a night or two really demonstrated how much brighter the Ultras are. Anyway, I bought another Ultra, then went with regular Silverstars, and finally, after replacing three or four bulbs in two years I got some Xtravisions. They've held up fine so far, are brighter than factory bulbs, and cost about 1/4 as much as the Ultras.

I have been running the SilverStars and have to agree the life is short always lasted a year. I have the ZXE now for about a year and a half so far so good.

pull the DRL fuses or disable them and you should have a far longer bulb life.

Fred why do you need to pull fuse for the DRL. just asking

With the GMT900 one way to keep the DRL's from coming on is to pull the fuse. Since the low beam bulb doubles as the DRL this gives you longer bulb life.

The DRL's essentially run your bulbs all the time whenever your truck is on. By disabling them you will cut the amount of time the bulb is being used. If a bulb has an example life span of 1000 hours, then anytime you use the lights via DRL or regular headlights it is counting against that bulb lifespan. It's a simple idea really, you are simply cutting the amount of time the bulb will be on, thus extending its life.

I bought a set of silverstars and returned them shortly after. They are a whiter light but they didnt seem that much brighter for almost three times the cost of stock ones. Also life expectancy on them isnt very good, would not recommend them, get a good set of HID instead.
