Door leaks -- 2010 Sierra

I have minor leakage through the door seal on the driver's side of my 2010 ext. cab Sierra. The leak appears to be at the top of the door, just wear it starts to angle downward (going toward the front). There appears to be nothing at all wrong with the weather stripping.

 

When the truck is parked, it seems as though water will run down the jamb and never get the sill or carpet wet. Can it eventually drain from the bottom of the door? When driving it seems that I'll get a drip every couple of minutes onto my left leg.

 

I notice there are two sets of weather stripping. When I see the leaks, I only see any moisture on the lower of the two strips -- not sure what this is supposed to mean. Truck is out of warranty, so I have no plans to deal with dealership.

Here are 2 photos in an attempt to provide some detail. The first photo is with the door closed. The beads of water basically show up on the thin strip of painted metal on the door that can be seen inside the cab.

 

 

The second photo is of the door, while open. Just above the highest bead is where it drips from.

Take it into the dealership and have them fix it under warranty. I had a similar issue with my 2010 Silverado. Took it in, they realigned the door and problem solved. It is possible the door it not properly aligned causing this leak.

It is no longer under warranty.

 

Is there a way to easily determine if the door is properly aligned, other than the seal? It seems to shut OK, although it rattles a bit ever since a failed attempt at taking off the door panel to change my handles.

If its a 2012 it should still be covered, if its over the miles, the dealer might do it still as a good relations type of thing. GM does do things to try and help out.

Arrgh. I read my original post 4 times to make sure I had the year model right -- should've read it 5 times, huh. It's a 2010. Sorry.

That is still pretty new. I would suggest taking it to a dealer and see if they will work with you. Being in the military I have had to take my vehicles to many different dealers for different stuff, and for the most part they are pretty good. Just ask and see if they can help out. Good luck.

I would also have to recommend taking the vehicle into your dealer to have them take a look. Keep me posted and let me know if you need anything in the meantime. Thank you.

Its the door weatherstrip! Its lost its compression so you have a air/water leak.

My 07 gmt-900 has the same issue.

 

The space where the V is on the face of the weatherstrip has lost its compression

tension so you and I have a air/water leak between the weatherstrip and the door.

The kit below just fills the V with some foam "rope" to spread the V out and stop the

leak. A new GM weatherstrip is almost $60 bucks!

 

I wonder if the hardware store has some kind of foam "rope" kind of stuff you

could buy and insert into the weatherstrip V to spred it out for only a couple

of bucks? The "fix kit" below looks similar.............
