Tranny over heating while towing

Can you post a pic of it? And if its a gasser, then it should be the same as a 1500. I think the diesels have bigger trans. lines

You do realize there are two fittings per side involved in this, right?

Where is your problem exactly? do you have this fitting? p5406C.jpg

Does it thread into the cooler?

Is your problem with this quick disconnect fitting, fitting into the above fitting?

my quick connect fittings doesn't fit into the 3/8 female end

the half inch NPT fits into the cooler just fine

Maybe metric threads......

In all our installations we used new fittings. Never messed with trying to remove the old ones from the cooler

I never said I was trying to remove any fittings from the cooler the outlet on the cooler is half inch NPT which is fine it's the other and that's giving me a problem on the cooler lines hey buddy

I don't know where I would find a metric fitting

99% of threads on our trucks are metric, but I'm pretty sure those should but SAE thread. And txab was talking about the fittings on the stock cooler. I agree with him, just buy new ones, because thats how I destroyed my first stock cooler is by trying to remove those quick disconnect fittings.

And let me get this straight so I'm not giving you false info, but you said the quick disconnect fitting (male) is smaller than the 3/8" NPT on the reducer?

Posted

Yes, if I install the reducer onto the new cooler just fine, the cooler line fitting is too small to fit in the 3/8 end of reducer

Posted

That's weird. Here's what I would suggest, go to your local parts store and have them pull out a new quick disconnect fitting and take your cooler with you with the reducer and see if it threads into your reducer.

I know when my buddy had his '99 2500 with a 350, his truck was just thrown together with whatever they had leftover in the factory. He had a 3500 suspension and could never find anything for it. Maybe they just put an odd one on your stock cooler. GM can be weird like that sometimes.

If that still doesn't work, I'm not sure what I would do if I were you. maybe return it and get a cooler that you can just run rubber line, kinda like I have.

You have a 4L80E, correct?

yeah mine looks smaller tHan that and has less threads, it would be fine if I can go to the part store and just get two new factory fittings that are 3/8. if not I can always used 2 Barbed endS and section of hose on each

but I'd rather have a nice factory clean look

I dont blame you. thats one of the reasons you bought that cooler! Definently try one at the auto parts store first, if not, do your idea with the barbed ends

I was talking about you using the disconnects from your old, original cooler. We never did that, always new ones. I haven't run across your problem, but as suggested I'd go to the parts store and grab some more. Try them in the store.

A little further looking shows their could be 3 different part #'s, One looks to have smaller threads.

when I did mine, all of the quick disconnects were the same, such as to the radiator, cooler, and transmission.

Yeah, but you never removed the old cooler's fittings to see the thread did you? I know when it was tried here, the cooler metal gave way before the threads broke loose. I never saw the threads of the fitting. It's cheaper, quicker and to put all new in

I think the one I put a picture up of was from the cooler. I used PB blaster, vise grips, and put some @$$ behind it
