The mandatory Kinect thing pisses me off. I don't want to pay for something I'm not going to use. Don't need/want bluray either. I can understand them putting a BL player in it, most people do want it. But 90% of the people I know with a 360 don't have a Kinect. And those that do have one never use it. I like how they made a big deal about the headset too. Cause so many people use the one it comes with, hahahaha.

I hate the mandatory Kinect too. The only good thing is that my Wife will use it atleast.

Its not Mandatory anymore guys. You can plug it up without the Kinect once you get it.

I'd imagine the blu-ray ability stems from the games being put on blu-ray discs, or will be eventually, as they hold anywhere from 3-20 times more than a dvd. Cuts down on needing multiple discs like the 360 using 2 or 3 vs the ps3 sometimes using only 1. So by default you get the ability to play blu-ray movies even if you don't want it.

It's not mandatory to have to have it plugged in anymore, but you still have to pay for it. Like I said though, it will make my Wife happy so I don't mind it.

They are saying they can't let the 360 games work because they're switching to bluray? I have a hard time believing it couldn't be encoded to read the old discs.

It will not be backwards compatible. The ps4 which is bluray will not play ps3 games which are bluray

No blu-ray is backwards compatible with dvd. They just don't want to do the extra work to put the software/hardware in it to allow 360 games to work properly. They probably looked at when the PS3 tried to do that with ps2 games and it worked well for the most part but people started to raise hell about a few obscure games that didn't work. So the minority ruined it for the majority. That's also why those original backwards compatible ps3s fetch a hefty price when reselling, or they used to anyway.

They also figure that by now most people who would want a 360 have one already. They are going to continue with the 360 for another couple years I believe. I read somewhere that the last ps2 game was just released a short while ago.

Either way yet another point for PC gaming. Always backwards compatible all you need is a virtual machine if the game doesn't play nice with your current version of windows.

Yes, but not all of us game on the PC. We use consoles. And what about Mac gaming?

Mac gaming is worse than console gaming but might get better now that Mac has been using PC components for a couple years now. I think Linux will see a greater improvement in the next couple years than Mac will though. The new consoles are nothing but over priced and under powered PCs so technically everyone will be PC gaming with this next gen. To each their own though, thus is the great thing about choices. I can understand the draw towards consoles but I'm too cheap to take that expensive route.

I'd be interested to see if with this new gen of consoles if game mods will somehow be doable. With the way they lock those things down sadly I don't think so. Would be nice for you guys if it did though.

I prefer the console side. I can lay in bed and play games

I get the urge to game on my couch every now and then so I roll my tower into the room and hook it up to the big screen. A bit sad really since that tv has a ps3 and a "media pc" already hooked up to it. I think if I had a big screen and surround sound in my room I'd game from my bed. I don't even have a TV in my room anymore, after having it sit on top of the safe for the last few years collecting dust I gave it to my dad to use in his room.

As much as I hate using the xbox controller (having only owned playstations probably has something to do with that) I think I'm going to have to get one one day since they are a lot more user/game friendly when used on a PC than the PS3 controller is.

Another couple pluses for consoles is you guys get games that were made for consoles and not just a crap port over. Also y'all sometimes get games sooner than the PC. Prime example would be Rockstar games, they normally don't release a PC version for 6-12 months after the console version of some of their games.
