Tranny locked up?

So today I was in town with a friend and when we got where we were going I like always put the truck in park but it felt kind of funny, but I chose to ignore it. When we came out I found that my truck would start but not shif out of park. It was on a slight incline but nothing to serious. I also couldn't get the transfer case into neutral. Finally to get it to shift I rocked the truck back and forth while my friend shifted it. the rest of the day it was fine. Has anyone had this problem? Should I be concerned? And I guess I'll be getting my parking brake fixed soon to keep the pressure off the tranny.

1. My fluid is a healthy pink color

2. I have not been having any shifting problems

3. The linkage is loose. ( I think this is or partly is the culprit)

Happens all the time. The incline no matter how slight will keep the gear shift from coming out of park. A hard jerk will usually get it out. But you did the right thing by rocking it to relieve pressure. Nothing wrong with transmission.

You should use your parking brake.

This. I use my parking brake on even the slightest of inclines to keep the stress off the park pawl.
