How does the new Tailgate Assist work?

I've been watching the new truck commercials and have been seeing the soft open tailgate. I don't see the extra support bracket that all of the after market ones have. Did I just miss it or is the factory version something different?

I don't know where it is or care how the soft-down, easy-up tailgate works......only that it works great!

 

Looked at a new Ram to get a $50 test ride and salesman said it has a similar tailgate. My a$$! Tripped the handle on one in the showroom and it dropped with a loud noise like a ton of bricks, so hard I was surprised the cables didn't snap.

Can this be replace or fixed without buying an entirely new tailgate?
