Shotgunz71....if you don't mind me asking, what is the led around the knows issue? The red light around my hvac controls are blacked out in spots. Not a full border.

On some early build '14 trucks, the LED rings around the volume, tuning and fan speed knobs were not illuminated. This was due to a supplier issue and GM didn't want to slow production waiting for the correct part (resistors) to come in, so they produced some that weren't illuminated. People started noticing, and GM tried to cover it up by saying they were designed that way. Thing is, some of the very first trucks were working and later trucks were working.

I wonder when GM is actually going to acknowledge that this IS an issue...

Gm guy? Would you mind if I contacted the dealer where you got yours done to see if the could give me a lead on what to tell mine?

Update on the NEW front differential that had originally resolved this issue. After roughly 1,500 miles the issue has returned unfortunately. Same exact humming/rotational moaning noise as before.

I have not taking it back in, don't have time for this at the moment and don't expect them to replace it again as they stated before there is no TSB currently for this and they need one from GM.

IMO, I think some front diff's are coming with bad pinion/gear backlash (countless other threads seen same issues with REAR axles) and settings from the FACTORY. So with the bad settings it takes some time before it creates enough "play" incorrect teeth wear etc..and leads to what we all are currently dealing with.

There are some TSB's for the rear axles, just wish they would release something for the front axle so the dealers arms are not tied.

If a TSB doesn't come out for the front differentials / axles by this Spring, I will be putting my truck up for sale and may have to retire my user ID.

Hello all, I am new here and am having a similar issue except mine is a constant whine once it starts. It happened twice today and started at approximately 43 to 45 mph. I was able to get my phone out the second time and capture it. The video is provided on youtube at the following link.

As soon as I got home, I called the dealership and they got me right in to check it out. Haven't heard anything back from them yet. And of course it didn't happen again as I drove to the dealership. Just hoping they were able to recreate it. I did show the video to the shop manager. 2014 GMC Sierra extra cab with about 5000 miles on it.

Mine comes and goes. When it's got just the right load on it and approaching 60 or so. Don't usually notice it on a short trip to town. Kind of hoping they figure something out and issue a TBS or something. Supposed to take my service manager or one of the techs for a ride if I catch it acting up and I'm near by sometime. At first I thought maybe it was the exhaust system vibrating or the flapper valve within it.

Welcome, glassmasterB. Mine does this in/out hum thing between 58-70 mph. It is prominently on the driver's side front end from what i can interpret. Have had my exhaust replaced already to the converter, tires rotated and balanced with no change. It goes away while cruising in that speed range instantly when i put it into AUTO or 4WD. Then when i switch back to 2WD it gradually comes back. One tech thought it could be in the front dif, but of course gm wont touch it until sonebody dies or theres an explosion. :). Forgive me, i have been fighting this anomaly for over a year. Oh, and how about those static ridden dash speakers in hd?! Mine sound like they're blown already. 19,000 miles. Dealer said normal sound. Ha! Ya, if youre drunk.

Kudos to my local dealership for pinpointing the problem so quickly. Just got the call from them and they were able to duplicate the noise. As the tech was driving and the noise was doing it's thing, the tech rolled the window down and pulled in the mirror, as he noticed some visible vibration. The noise stopped. He did this several times and has concluded it is the mirror. Since this is the first time it has happened, and with the weather being so cold, they will have me monitor it for further occurrences. If it continues even as the temperature rises, they will replace the mirror under warranty. So glad it's nothing major!

Man I would be glad if mine turned out to be something so simple. I'll check it out next trip I take but I'm not too optimistic that's what mines doing.

55-70 mph. Whaap.......whaap.....

whaap.....only in 2wd. Driver's side. Not tires. Goes away in auto. If some one has a 4x4 crew cab 20" wheels please tell me if you hear this noise. With radio and vents off. Cruising at the above speeds.

Don't think my problem is a bearing or a mirror.
Sounds exactly like what GM-GUY is thinking it it. Incorrect wear of the gears and then the driveshaft starts to show so lateral play and it literally moves up and down and creating this harmonic noise.

IT IS FRUSTRATING ME LIKE NOTHING BEFORE.

C'mon GM do something here.

Any new light to shed on this issue? I just bought a 2014 1500 crew cab, 5.3, 4X4, LTZ, 3.42 gears. Very noticeable on and off humming/frequency noise (and I think I also feel it on te floor boards) that is especially noticeable from 60-70mph. It is not engine rpm based, nor is it V4 or V8 based. It seems to be noticeable once the truck has been driven and all the fluids are warmed up a bit. It does go away when in "auto 4 wheel drive" and then slowly comes back when switched back into 2WD. Please help me point to a technical service bulletin or a fix of some sort!
