Auto Climate Question

I noticed on the new 14 and wives new car when you turn the auto climate on the AC turns on. Im assuming when you want heat it keeps the AC running otherwise it would kill your MPG and run your AC out quicker. So am I right in thinking a clutch keeps it turned off.

I think they run the a.c.compressor to dehumidifier the cab of the truck but I'm not sure. I always turn it off anyway lol

I wouldn't worry about it robbing any mpg or power. It's a little different these days with these new systems.

I believe the BCM will not engage the a/c if the ambient temp is below a certain point. Otherwise the a/c will run occasionally to dehumidify the cabin. This helps to keep the windows from fogging up.

Yea I noticed this as well. But, I haven't noticed a difference in the cold weather running on Auto vs Manual HVAC.

I noticed my dads Buick does the same thing, when Auto is on the AC lights up. The ambient temp sensor tells the Auto HVAC weather or not to use AC or Heat. Just depends on the temp outside.

The light means the AC is enabled. It does not necessarily mean the compressor is running.

As posted above, it will run the AC as required to help control the humidity.
