Hill Decent Control

Someone go climb Mt. Washington with their truck and use the hill desent coming down. I wanna know how well it works.

It is nice since I use to have to be in manual mode and down shift to maintain a safe speed.

It's steep/twisty enough that you need to stay below 15mph?

In sections it is. I think the speed limit is 25. At the top it is scary but the lower you go the longer the easier it is.

They need two manuals. The one they gave us and another for people who are not idiots. They can called it advanced to not offend if they want, but put the features that go above all the normal boring things we have all figured out on the drive home or first week driving it. On top of that I ordered my 6.2L in November and got in March. If they gave me a manual I certainly would have read it a couple of times while waiting.

You could've downloaded it from the Chevy website. When I was in the market to buy my 2011 I downloaded manuals from all three brands as part of the cross-shopping/comparison. No excuse not to read the manual, a vehicle is one of the biggest expenses second to housing for most people so it baffles me that owners can't be bothered to learn how their purchase works.

Hill descent control can maintain speed between 2 and 14 mph. It will remain enabled from 14 to 37, but speed cannot be set or maintained in that range. Above 50mph( or above 37 for 60sec or more) it will disable and require the button to be pressed again to re-enable.

I've tried it on multiple occasions and it sounds like the ABS is going off. Works very well on dry/wet pavement. Have not tried it on icy/snow conditions.

I tried it the other day, getting down into a little fishing hole we found. It certainly does work. But it makes some strange sounds while it's on.

I'm glad to hear other people experiencing the noise. I asked the service manager at my dealer if that sound is normal, but then I had to educate him on what the Hill Decent feature is. I wasn't all that confident when he said "Yep, sounds normal."

HDC uses the ABS control solenoids. It will sound similar to when ABS or StabiliTrak kicks in and this is absolutely normal.

Yeah I figured that since it sounds like ABS, only a bit worse, that it was indeed normal. It's a pretty cool feature.

Tried it last weekend. Does indeed sound ABS-ish. Weird sounds are normal. Worked as advertised!!!
