Wheel Offset & Tire Combo After Lift?

From my research and the rim dealership you can clear 33's all day with a positive offset rim on a 2" leveling kit. Just stick close to factory offset. I am planning to run that set-up in the future.

Update:

I have both lifts completed and installed on the truck. It is now sitting 4" higher than stock. The 1.5" body lift made a huge difference.

I was not able to make it to the wheel shop in time but I'm set up for today after I get out of work. I'll let everyone know what happens. I had them order in a +18 offset in case these -12 don't work out.

Offset and Backspacing don't affect each other...they are interchangeable terms for the same thing. I wouldn't hold out much hope that the extra 1.5" will alleviate the rubbing all together. Should've gone with a 3". If the fenders are anything like the previous generation, you will ultimately need closer to 6" of lift to adequately clear a true 33" tire on aftermarket wheels.

I don't like 3" body lifts, just don't like the look. 1.5" is still close enough to stock where its not too noticeable. I drive over 100 miles a day so I'm not looking for a 6" (which would clear 35's). I made the decision based on my driving needs and I'm happy with the lift choices I made. People in here are clearing 33's with only a 2" leveling kit so I think I'll make it.

If the fender flares fit (and look appealing) it will just be an added bonus. If not I'll sell them.

Awesome wheels. Is that gloss black with chrome? Good match up with your truck color too.

Yep you got it. I'm not a real big fan of flat black so once I came across these I had to have them. I plan to pick up some n-fab later, they come with a gloss black powder coated finish. Should tie everything in well.

Thanks

I'm looking forward to seeing what your truck looks like. Close to the same lift combo I was thinking about.

Keep checking back, it will be finished soon

Yes your right, I was just looking for a slightly wider stance rather than the tucked look. One thing I have noticed is people say they clear 33's but they are actually running 285/55r20 (32.8"). That is what my dealership tried to sell me at an outrageous price. Seems like a lot of people on here are able to run 305/55r20 so I'm guessing other people go smaller for the price.

Playing with offset gets to be tricky. I guess we get to be the test dummy, buying the first run of the new body styles

yeah...it took me a while to research this...it was a headache...i gave up for now on what i want to do...

Not really true. They are separate measurements.

Both are measured from the mounting surface and both mean the exact same thing (hence the ability to convert one into the other with mathematical formulas), although they are measured differently. Same thing.

Also somebody else on here said that had rubbing on the control arm during a full lock turn. They had OE wheels and 305/55/20 I believe. I plan to check out my own set up for that soon. So just a heads up.

Update: I checked for structural rubbing. My set up (20x9, +18 offset, LT305/55/20) is OK by almost half an inch. When the steering is fully locked, one tire is very close to the sway bar, and the other tire is very close to the upper control arm. (I have aluminum control arms, but I would assume the steel arms are the exact same shape.)

However, that means OE wheels are not compatible with LT305/55/20. The OE wheels are tucked in an extra half inch, which means you would rub on both the sway bar and the upper control arm in full steering lock. That should be a show stopper to anyone considering this setup. With OE wheels you would need to reduce to 295/55/20 or more commonly 285/55/20.

Anyway full disclosure I do have very slight rubbing on the back of the wheelhouse liner during full lock, but it should be easy to fix with no cutting because the liners are pretty flexible.

Hi Kuug - did you notice any difference in the ride quality with the lifts on and driving around with your stock wheel/tires? I really like the ride quality of these '14 Z71s; wondering if the combination of the level kit and body lift affect it in anyway. You should post up a picture with the stock wheels, give a great visual on what the lifts add.

Thanks for paving the pathway on this one, can't wait to see the truck!!!!!!

Any lift will change the ride quality but my thought when first deciding what I exactly wanted was to keep as close to stock as possible. When I first test drove these trucks back in May I couldn't believe how smooth and quiet it was. After I bought mine in July I was even more impressed. I've never had a truck this easy to drive. I also didn't want to kill my gas mileage too much.

After doing the 2.5" suspension lift I felt very minimal changes on the ride quality. It was still very smooth compared to any other truck I've owned. After getting it back yesterday with the body lift I do notice the steering is a little bit stiffer. I've put about 60-70 miles on it since I got it back so I've had a chance to evaluate it a little bit. With both lifts combined the suspension is definitely a little less forgiving but its not anything like a 6" would be. Its more noticeable than how they come stock but if you want your truck slightly taller then it's not enough to make me not want to do it.

I'll get a couple pictures posted here shortly. We had awful weather last night and this morning so I wasn't able to get a clean picture today yet. I'll take one before the wheels go on this afternoon.

I'll also try to get it next to my dads this weekend so you guys can see a side by side comparison. He bought the same exact truck but white.

After 2.5" Suspension:

I'm not sure if the pictures show the difference clearly but the 2.5" suspension is a great option for someone wanting slightly more than a leveling kit and still maintain factory ride quality.

the rear only adds 1" of lift and the front is 2.5". When looking at the rear photo look at the mirrors. Also keep in mind the driveway is at an angle and I'm standing in the street to take the picture.

Im currently trying to decide which route I am going with wheels, tires and leveling kit. I like the stance of your truck from the front. Do you by any chance have a side view of your truck you can put on here? Thanks

My aftermarket wheels are 20x9 +18 and I run 305/55/20 Nitto Terra Grapplers with the RC 2". I have a very slight rub that I hope to fix this weekend by "pulling" the wheelhouse liner half an inch at just the right spot (still figuring out how to secure it there -- I might gorilla tape a washer to the backside of the liner and then run a zip tie through the washer and to nearby frame/body/whatever pulls the right direction).

Based on the fitment on my setup, I'm guessing you could do a zero offset wheel and this same tire size. Even then the outer edge of the tires still might not line up with your fender flares, though. The tires would stick out 2/3 of an inch more than mine. Seen here: (Warning, my front wheels were turned a little in this picture. Look at the back wheel.)

If you stay narrow (like 65+ series) you can run 34" tires with just the RC 2" on stock-offset wheels (25+). I think one or two on this forum have reported _no_ rubbing with that setup. But you can't have that and still get the tire line to reach the aftermarket fender flares.

I really need some new pictures because as you can see the fluorescent red doesn't really work, so I put the chrome inserts on right away but I'm still doing a few more mods and will get more pictures eventually.

Anyway I hope this helps you somehow. Getting just the right stance is tricky.

Thanks. That looks good. Do you have much road noise with these tires? Im really wanting to have my cake and eat it to. I want a better stance and look but don't want the road noise with the tires. Thanks again for your input and help. Truck looks great

Thanks! No, the tires are quiet. I was very tempted to go with Trail Grapplers instead of Terra Grapplers. The Trails have the exact look I wanted, but I knew they were louder etc. so for me this was the right compromise. The width and positioning of the tires helps make up for the slightly less aggressive tread pattern.
