Hey guys,

 

I think I have decided where I want to start with my lowering. I hope to order spindles for the front, and 2” lowering shackles and remove the rubber block between the leafs and the the axel. Should be about 2/3.5ish. Should maintain a little rake when empty and level out when I have my bike in the back ?

 

will I need new, shorter bolts for the leaf springs and what about shock extenders? Anything else I am forgetting?

Belltech kit comes with spacers, I think it's part #6401. I have a 17 crew cab and it dropped mine exactly 3". My 14 crew cab only dropped 1.75" with 2" shackles. The block b/w the axle and springs is 1.25". Fender height on my 17 is within less than 1/4" all the way around.

I was leaning towards McGaughys parts. I think I read something about having to cut a nut or something on the Bell spindles? 

 

Was also considering ordering new, shorter bolts to eliminate spacers completely. 

 

Do I need shock extenders and different bump stops for the rear drop I am planning?

You dont need shock extenders for 3 inches. I did the 2 inch shackles and flipped the block for 3 inches and didn't need anything.

If you have 4 wheel drive then you'll need to trim the upper ball joint stud so it's flush with the nut. If you run smaller than 20" wheels you may need to trim the lower balljoint stud. I would recommend shock extenders. It'll help keep your shocks in their operating zone. As long as your u bolts don't show any signs of deformation I would say they're OK to re use. I would change them if you remove them a second time though.

Ii have 4WD, I have 20” stock rims and winter tires for winter, and just bolted on the 22” summer rims and tires. So I don’t need to trim any studs?

 

would consider reusing the bolts but I would also need to buy spacers anyway right?

Yes the shop that did the work flipped the block from under the leaf springs to on top or vise versa can't remember which way but it also gave me 3 inches in the rear.

Hmmm... I think I understand what they may have done, and doing this may have eliminated the need for spacers on your bolts. If that’s what they did, I wonder if they added some sort of plate between the top of the rubber block and the u-bolts so the bolts wouldn’t squat into the rubber?

You will need to trim the top stud for sure. It's to make room for the cv axle. You might need to trim the bottom stud to fit your winter set, if you do just removing the unthreaded portion will be plenty. Your 22s will clear fine.

The block isn't rubber, it's steel and nothing to cut. McGaugheys and Belltech shackles are exactly the same. You could relocate the block to avoid needing spacers, but not sure what that involves. May have iterference with the spring stud.

Not for 3", I've had no issues. Actually rides better than stock to me. I don't pull a trailer or haul anything though.

I only plan to throw a few pieces of lumber in it every now and again or my bike which is about 500 lbs.

I am new member to this forum and I have a question about lowering kits. I've read all the way back to page 146 and it seem like the best way to go is either Belltech or McGaugheys for a 4/6 drop kit on my 2014 Crew cab Silverado. I have the opportunity to purchase a INEZ 4/6 lower and upper A arm flip kit for a very good price and its tempting. What are the pros and cons with this kit. Should I stay away from this kit? Thanks

    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.       
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper. 
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money". 
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back. 
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
