Dealer installed GM drop-in liner

I have always had a drop in. My 1990 had one. The inside of the bed was the only thing that wasn't rusty. My 2006 has the GM liner and there is no rust to be found. IMO the spray ins simply aren't worth $500+.

If you're worried about stuff sliding around you can get a rubber bed mat for pretty cheap. Something else to consider is that impact protection is better with a drop in. They can absorb quite a bit.

so many people think drop ins are going to turn your bed into rust bucket. it's going to scuff the paint. the same action that scuffs the paint will keep corrosion from forming. They look a lot better than scratching the factory paint in use. If you can afford a spray in go for it but the drop ins aren't all that bad....

I just shown what 10 years of a drop in looks like. Not horrible, but not amazing either. I am doing a spray in, but it wasnt expensive

After 10 years with a plastic liner

That may be the case with your truck. Today's paint is NO Where near as good as what you have with that year truck. My 2001 truck bed looked better after 8 years than the 2009 I just traded after 3 years. No liner on either truck.

My truck was built August 03 and first sold Sept 03. The liner I pulled out in october had a sticker on the outside that was protected from sun and water said the brand and when made which was September 2003. My bed looks worse than the cell pic leads on. It did protect my bed from a lot but I hate the way the bed looks

My spray in liner with lifetime warranty was $299.

Where??? Line-X here is over $600.

I guarantee you it looks better under my drop in than it does under a spray in.

No issues with my dealer installed drop in. Have a dealer installed tonneau cover as well so water isn't a huge factor.

Aaron, what brand tonneau cover you have? How is it works with the drop-in, any issues?

I have a bed saver pad, under the gm bed liner.

It's removed and cleaned, twice a year.

I install carpet, so I needed a non-grip surface.

Have had drop in gm liners in all my trucks. Does get some paint scuffing but never any rust issues. Pittsburgh Pennsylvania truck. Lots of salt and winters here :nopity:.

I test drove a 2012 Sierra SLT with 9k miles on it when I was looking to buy one. It had a drop in liner, and the paint damage underneath it was really excessive. It was so bad that I wasn't going to purchase the truck unless the bed was repainted, or a $500 discount due to the damage. I ended up buying a brand new SLE with almost the same equipment for $2k less.

I had a choice of drop in or spray included in my package. I went with the drop in because there really is no turning back on spray. I find it funny that people complain about the drop in rubbing or rusting but when they install spray you have to sand through all that anyway. Then the spray ends up fading quickly.

I don't plan on leaving it in there forever but when I'm done with it I'll look into the spray in. There are advantages of both and I don't see one out weighing in either direction; it's all personal preference.

As far as the original post I would not drill holes for drainage, just drive and let it all pour out. When they did mine they cut out and installed the top hooks, they work out just fine...
