I live in upstate NY and it's been -10 for the last few weeks...well, I finally decided to run through the car wash (first mistake going through a touch car wash. I own a detail business, but was in a rush) and here's what I got....

That's when you hope it's something you can just change to aftermarket. In that situation there's nothing you can really do other than maybe adding color matching fender flares. I ran into a tree while playing in my 98 in the mud and had insurance pay for it but I asked the body shop to just put in a different grilel instead of a stock one. They had no problem doing it and didn't charge anything other than the deductible. Of course if I had then put on an HD bumper rather than the stock one then I know they would have had me pay the difference. Sometimes you can turn a bad thing into a good thing that will let you upgrade something on the truck lol.

I like that blue by the way, if I wasn't so into having a black truck I would have gotten it in blue.

You're very correct!

I had a 1995 Mustang GT that some angry kid keyed and ended up totaled....$7000 in damage. I ended up collecting the insurance money, buying it back from insurance company, and then selling it for $4000 lol

Made out pretty well on that one.

I might try some fender flares, and buff out the scratch as best I can. It's pretty deep.

Thank you! I love the blue man! It's sharp, but nothing matches with it. I wanted a black one but didn't have one on the lot at the time...and after the test drive you can't just walk away with nothing! ;-)

Ya midway though having my Pewter (called mud camo lol) 98 I started to get into black trucks. I was looking for a new truck (not even brand new, just wanted a used one and left with a brand new one lol) and I did want a black one but it wasn't set in stone. Well after looking at the '14s and told him the stuff I did want and didn't want he gave me 3 color choices. Black, gray and blue I believe and I immediately said black. He then pulled it around for me to test drive. It took me all of 2 seconds to fall in love with it. It's exactly what I want, has everything I would want and doesn't have the things I don't care for. The only thing I don't like is the damn 3.08 gears and well sounding like a Prius which I fixed with a Flowmaster Super 44 and I plan on changing the gears to 3.73s. Well at first I did want to just black out everything, but I see how nice chrome looks with black so now I want to keep the chrome grille, headlight trim and badges while wanting to black chroming the bumpers. That way it still has the look of chrome while color matching.

Did my first, post 24k mile, oil change. Dealer did free ones. Was suprised when I got under there that the oil plug was not even finger tight... no leaks but very loose. The oil filter came off by hand really easy too. I'm used to almost stripped screws from quick change places. Was also surprised it takes over 8 quarts on these trucks. Not a big fan of the oil plug being on a vertical surface. Always have to make a mess in my garage [emoji1] . Still nice to get hands dirty though.

I read on here where 8.5 is actually too much so they changed it to 8 quarts even. I think something came up on the DIC screen or something.

8.5 only got me to middle of the dip stick marked zone. Going to wait a few days and check again. I stopped at 8 and kept measuring. Didn't want to go over 8.5 though. No msg on dic though.

Did my first oil change after owning her for a month, 3900 miles under her belt already. Also buffed the tailgate, getting ready to do the whole truck now. Added a Texas Edition to the tailgate in place of the "LT" badge, I love it!

I've had mine coming up on 2 months 4k miles. Didn't drive it too much the first month (my mom had it because vehicles breaking down and my sister came into town and what not). Did the first oil change at 800 miles and I plan on doing it every 6k just so it's in line with rotating tires. Run those tires too long and they get too noisy for my liking (for nice street tires that is).

This weekend I may install my level kit. Not sure if I should install rear blocks as well or just the 2" front spacers

Added a flow master super 40 muffler. Will take some video tomorrow if the weather isn't to bad. So far I love it. The truck doesn't sound like a Prius anymore. And it's not loud at all in the cab with the radio volume a little over a quarter of the way up I can't even here the exhaust.

I had 2 Super 40s on my 98 and even though it was a decent sound, it wasn't close to being loud enough. That's why when I had the exhaust done on my '14 I had a Super 44 single in/dual out and it's perfect for me. Being that it's a quiet cab it's not that loud in the cab unless I get on it. I only need the XM volume at about 1/4-1/3. It's loud enough even at idle that I can remote start it on the street while I'm in the opposite side of the house or from my backyard and I hear it just fine.

    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.
    • apparently CA smog is (or at least was)  checking that the vehicle is using the oem and/or a ca smog approved tune, so I expect you'll fail inspection doing it.
    • yes, leaking exhaust will mess up o2 sensor readings, which in turn messes up fuel trims.
    • 286,740 Mile Services   8/6/2026   New AC Compressor. Refrigerant oil and dye, evacuate and charge system.  New exhaust system from cat back.  New Iridium plugs plus replace #3 coil Repair/rewire headlamp wiring (passenger side) and replace all forward bulbs. Polish lenses of both assemblies.  Pull rear rotors, clean and adjust parking assembly. Inspect, clean and grease front calipers. Check pads and shoes.  4 wheel power bleed of brake system. Dot 4 Reset idle speed 50 rpm higher New Serpentine belt.    Will need new pads in the rear in about 5K more miles.    Tax Title and License out the door just short of a grand.    AC clutch had bitten the dust. 1 year warranty on the pick and save replacement. Thing will make a Polar Bear cry Uncle.  He spent quite some time on the wiring. It was in the harness and he does nothing half. I got off cheap. I have considerable more light down the road. Sylvania Silver Star replacements.  Gas seal between the porcelain and shell of plug #3 was blown, cooked the coil. That was the cold miss.  Love the new exhaust. I can sneak into the neighborhood again.  Nice to have a working parking brake again. Belle Tire never got it done. That was disappointing.    This was one of her bigger bills and still way cheaper than a payment even given the oil consumption. This thing cost me under a hundred a month in repairs and normal routine costs. What is my incentive to replace it? 🤔
