you can dip them. I did it once but then peeled it off cause it got messed up when I was putting it back on. Or, well, actually it was when one of the pieces fell out of my hand carrying them back to the truck and I didn't really want to redip it even though it wouldn't have been hard

Actually, I paid $163 for new black window trim pieces at the dealer. Took me about 1.5 hours total to remove the 4 chrome pieces and install the new black ones (once you do the first one and see how it goes, the next 3 go much faster). Sold the chrome pieces on this forum for $80. My net cost $83 and I have OEM pieces on my truck.

 

Plastidip might be a little cheaper, but will probably take longer than just replacing them. I think OEM pieces look better IMO.

I personally wouldn't use plastidip... It tends to peal off in time if not done correctly and that would look awful. Why skimp on a 40 thousand plus truck. JMHO!

I lucked out i found oem black ones on ebay and got them for 105 shipped then sold my chrome ones for 165 on ebay minus fees and shipping i prolly broke even or gained a lil so id try that route!

I dipped mine... had to do it 4x before I got it right and it's already starting to peel. That took 2 cans of dip so about $12. Really sucks getting to the 2nd to last or even last coat... ****ing it up and having to start over. Or worse getting to the peel stage and having to start over it wasn't until I got to the 4th try and 8th or 9th beer that I kinda got it right. There was a lot of precise taping and smooth quick rubbing to get it to peel right. I know I won't get the 4 hours of life back but I'm on the fence regaring how it looks. From a distance it's awesom, from close I go back and forth usually depending how many beers I've had.

These things aren't that large. It takes 1.5-2 cans to properly cover an entire bumper on these trucks, how thick did you put your coats? I dipped mine and they came out good.

I should have said it was one of my first dipping endeavers. It was 1 can black and 1 can glossifier and I did it 4 times with 4 coats each time because I kept over peeling. I'll probably do it again, sometime this summer and it'll be much better now that I have a lot more experience dipping.

The more I look at it - the more I like the chrome window trim moldings for my truck. I don’t know why. Maybe I haven’t seen them on "regular pickups" and just want to be different. Give more class with the other chrome items (door handles, mirror covers and door molding trim). I am not sure if GM makes them for regular pickups because I was told the doors are different from the other models. Even so, I don’t want to pay the money GM demands or do the harder removal. So what I decided to do is get a set made by Putco which are stainless steel window sill trim which I got for about $36 (AutoAnything). It seems to have gotten a good rating from other 2014 Silverado owners. Should be getting them this coming Tuesday. Just another option for chrome lovers.

I got these in on Saturday but there was a kink in both of them. Shows up a lot in chrome. The shipping box was okay but the box the parts came in had a slight bent (mark in package) to it. These will be going back to the shipper. Otherwise they looked good and these didn't have anything engraved in them which is okay with me. I had a chance to get an idea what they look like before sending them back. I am going to reorder them again.
