My 18 tear old son is looking into buying a 98 S-10 4 wd ext cab. The truck has 86,000 miles on a 4.3 auto. The truck has been hit in the front and right side but was repaired real well. I have looked at the truck and driven and seems to track well, no shakes or rattles. Only problem I have seen is a small leak from the left inner cv boot. Just the clamp though and the guy selling it says he will replace the clamp. Anything you guys could suggest to look for? By the way the guys selling the truck for $7k. Seems like a great price for a good little truck.  :smash:

That does seem like a pretty good price as long as the vehicle is in good shape.

Check the oilfilter bypass lines as they are notorious for leaking.

As far as I can tell no leaks. The guy is even giving a 30 day warranty. Guess we'll have to buy it.  Finally getting the boy into a GM truck. :smash:

You usually have to inspect the lines from underneath to see if they are leaking or not.

They don't drip until they get really bad but you will be able to see oil on the lines and near the fittings if they are going bad.

Yeah, I've noticed some oil on my 97 recently and sure enough seems to be coming from the oil bypass lines closest to fitting at the block.  Does anyone know what's required to fix this?

I wish mine was just a oil line.My 99 has been leaving nice little puddles for the past 6 monthes.I thought it was because I wasnt driving,I dont drive it in the winter.Anyways I went and got the oil changed and they said it was the main seal .Thank god for extended warrantys.
