Tricky to fill up with gas?

Anybody else having problems? I thought it was just the gas station, but now I've done several tanks at different stations and have the same problem at them all. The pump likes to shut off after a couple of seconds, like it thinks it's full. Usually only when I let it self pump, but even sometimes when I hold it. I usually have to pull the handle out a bit to get it to pump, which puts it close to falling out.

 

Another thing that might be related, the filled neck and bracket are all plastic. So it flexes quite a bit from the weight of the gas pump nozzle. I think the filler nozzle gets pulled up in the filler neck from the weight of the handle and either touches the inside of the neck or causes enough of a disturbance in the gas flow to cause the full mechanism to trip. That's my theory at least.

 

Anybody else? Pumping has now become a pain.

Have the same issue from day one. I just learned to leave with it...

Same issue. I have to turn the pump nozzle a little to one side or the other. After making a few out of state trips, I noticed it only seems to be pumps with the vapor recovery systems. (ie California) Not a huge deal though, my '07 Tahoe does the same thing, not quite as bad though.

I just let the nozzle sit about halfway out. Seems to bubble up too fast for the first few seconds.

yep, been happening to me since I had truck. Not sure if the brand/make of nozzle matters, I tend to gas up at same stations.

I had this same problem with my last truck also. I back the nozzle out a little bit as stated before. If that doesn't work I have to hold it at a balancing point almost where the nozzle is pointed downward, when that happens I usually on last about half a tank and leave.

VMax has it - the filler neck is angled to much right right after the inlet so if you stick the nozzle completely in, it splashes the end and kicks off the pump. Just have the nozzle 3/4 in and you'll be fine.

I'm going to mention this to my dealer the next time I'm in and have them open a case with GM on it. It dangerous to have the nozzle hanging half way out of the truck to get it to fill up. All it takes is one fire and this will be a recall.

This has been the case for me with my last 3 trucks.

Some pumps have a higher flow rate than others so sometimes it happens to me on my 09 and sometimes not. Not a big deal. Adjust the nozzle and move on. Seemed to do it more when my truck was newer.

I've had it happen occasionally on my other vehicles, mostly with newer nozzles that have the vapor recovery covers. But this happens 5 to 10 times now at each fill up. It's hard to find an angle or setting where it won't happen. Once or twice wouldn't be an issue, but 10 times gets frustrating - especially when it's cold and I want to be inside my vehicle.
